I have dust actually under the glass at the top of the lens. Am I right in thinking getting it cleaned for free under warranty is the right idea?
This is the dust under the lens (sorry, not massively detailed, taken on my phone)

And this is what happens when I take photos with the highest aperture

Ouch. And I thought it was bad when a tiny speck of dust got under my PSP screen o_O

Yes. Get it cleaned for free or as cheap as possible. A good piece of glass for cameras is expensive. My camera has some weird warranty that lets me send it off once a year for cleaning.

Haha, nice, I visited Canon who said they will clean it for free as it is under warranty. I couldn't get it cleaned the day I brought it in as we needed the camera and lens for filming the rest of our video art

What camera body do you run that lens with. I am thinking of purchasing a camera in the near future you see.

    Canon EOS 600D
    Satisfies my needs.
    Records in 1080p.
Only costs £760 with the 18-135mm lens.
Canon call it an entry-level camera, but you can get hella awesome shots out of it!

That is some serious kit. Blows my Pentax out the water.
My dad has a 18-135mm lens on his Nikon and gets some serious flix out of that.
I might be sold on Canon due to lens interchangeability with their XL videocameras.

I went with Canon as they are the most commonly used by photographers I have seen.
And you can't argue with 1080p, external mic jack, remote flash unit compatibility, Eye-fi compatibility, HDMI out and remote control compatibility.
From an entry level DSLR :D

It's quite a nice effect actually. But you'll really want to get that camera off as soon as - same thing happened to my camera and the lens got pretty scratched up by it. You're lucky, you're in warranty.

That second pic reminds me of BF3.
