Hybrid OCs

I've seen a few of these about (Mine included) and I've seen a lot of mixed opinions. I was wondering what everypony here thought about these things, and if you also have one, I'd love to see it ^_^

So where would mine come with that? I think I may have put a little much dragon in there, but I couldn't find a way to make him look right without putting all of the features on him.

Ahh, hybrids. Aesthetically, anything that isn't too complex is just dandy, same as with any sort of character. Your OC is only slightly more detailed than your average pegasus, so I'd say he(?) fits that criteria quite nicely.

I'll admit to having a problem with the backstories and fluff surrounding hybrids and halfbreeds. I can't really put my hoof on it, because most of the things I dislike about them are things that I'd see as positive anywhere else. They just rub me up the wrong way.

EDIT: Just for the record, dragons are cool.

The one thing I really hate is when people claim their OCs to be the offspring of hybrids. Hybrids cannot reproduce due to the odd number of chromosomes that will disrupt the process of meiosis in the zygote. In other words, producing a zony is a cruel fate; it's possible, but it will never be able to have children of its own. Although there is no real canon in this for obvious reasons, I'd like to think there were legal barriers to this in Equestria because interspecies breeding is beyond cruel to the offspring.

My OC is a hybrid also, so I approve!

It fits in with the fact that there are no hybrids in the canon whatsoever.

I think if you're gonna roleplay or write fics using them then they have to be some kind of royalty or some character of sizable stature and not somepony nopony pays attention to cause yeah, they doesn't really wash.. that said, I don't do either of those so I make 'em up just for kicks~

I made a pony hybrid with some kind of beetle for a contest I was hosting, does that count as a hybrid or are we only considering things like kirin etc?

Dragons are highly magical creatures and you might as well say that can allow versatile genetic material, meaning they can adapt to mix with a lot of other creatures, though as you said before they'd probably be sterile. I'd imagine that unicorns would be a better candidate for these to emerge since they also have their magic, though I'm not sure how theirs works in the the slightest...

If ever I do anything like that, he sticks out like he should, but he's not royalty or anything. He lives in the Everfree for the most part, on his own and causes a stir when ponies see him in a town.

Gotta mention that mine I purely made on appearance due to an obsession with dragons. Would it be better if I actually sat down and made a full backstory for him?
