Hey guys! Two news updates in two days - we're on a roll here.

So as some of you may have seen, it was requested that we open up a Roleplay area. After a few weeks of select testing, we've now decided to open it up to the masses.

Now, to ensure that everyone participating in the Roleplay enjoys a smooth experience with minimal disruption, we have decided to make the whole thing read-only until you create a character. By doing this, you'll be able to prove to us that you are able to Roleplay appropriately and will have had plenty of opportunity to read through our guides as well as rules before you actually start. All of this is explained in our guides.

If you bump into any problems, we have set-up a dedicated discussion forum for Roleplay-related feedback and troubleshooting. Because of the way the Roleplay areas are set up, some advanced permission settings are in place; while we think we have this sorted, there's always an off chance we missed something.

To keep things running smoothly, we have appointed two dedicated Roleplay Moderators - Pon4 and Blaze_Midnight. They will be supervising the Roleplay (a little like the Dungeon Master, if you're a D&D fan), and making sure no one Roleplayer steam-rolls everyone else. When they're inside the Roleplay areas, please treat them as you would any other moderator.

The members of staff who have stepped-up to the role of assisting in the Roleplay are:
The above roles are subject to change as necessary, as our needs might change.
    Enjoy!

Glad to know it's open to everyone now. Me and Ant were discussing the other day that it'd be more active with everyone.
The RP system is great so far and testing was fun, hope you all like it!

If anything is confusing or you need some help, feel free to message me or Blaze, as well as any of the other staff involved. It's taken a little while to knock the kinks out of the permissions and get things in order but hopefully it'll have been worthwhile.
    Hope to see you there!

Yup, we would've opened sooner but there were a couple of hitches we wanted to make sure we'd taken care of before letting the full 1500+ members test it out. It's been no big secret the area's been there, me and Blaze have had a title for a position that 'didn't exist' for a little while.
The feedback from the couple of interested individuals we picked out really helped, even if it's not apparent, so thanks to everyone who got involved. Now the feedback is open to anypony, so we'll see what happens.

Well I'm not really into RP anymore (I did quite a bit in the furry fandom, but don't really intend to pick it up again), but it's nice to see the site growing like this! One question I had though which I can't find the answer to anywhere is that do the posts in the RP section count towards post totals? If they do, I could quite easily see the user's post count increase to the 10s of thousands quite quickly due to the fast paced interaction involved with RP. Also the forum may be kind of slow for RP, maybe a UKofE-RP IRC channel would have been a better idea?

That's one catch, actually. Posts in the "Main Roleplay" sub-forum do not count towards a user's totals.

Ok, fair enough. I take it they won't appear under the new thread listings either, much like the randomness forum to avoid clutter?

I was one of the ponies showing initial interest in this when the thread about it popped up, so glad to see it come to completion! Will think about a character soon!

I love roleplaying but I'm not that good at grammer so I hope people will forgive me on that account.

Write your roleplay posts in a word processor like Word, if you do a spellcheck before posting it'll pick up a lot of the errors.

This is a gaming computer meant to play games.
I'll try my best with grammer

First though I need a decent name for my OC her talent is computers so I need a name related to it

Sorry, what? I have a computer designed for gaming too, but it isn't incapable of mundane tasks like running Office...
Regardless, there's the free solution to MS Office out there: OpenOffice. Writer is just as good.

Must be just my computer then.
Like I said I'll try my best with grammar.

That doesn't make sense. Download OpenOffice and install it, open up Writer, you have a version of Word free and legal and ready to roll. I can't conceive any reason why your computer can't run a word processor if it can play games. Unless you do everything with a joystick, or something.

Man I'm just gonna have to say I don't get people like you. And I will literally bet my life savings your computer can run word, go install openoffice or whatever.

Anyway good to see this new section. The default rules are too restrictive for my tastes but it looks like people are getting along well. Reminds me of the RP section on my first forum. You might consider importing some dice-throw functionality to give people more versatility though, I always find games which can base outcomes of events based on dice rolls to be way more interesting than ones which aren't.
