eh, this episode had a few moments of genius, such as the pinkie/twi banter and the silly scenario's. but otherwise it was one of the weaker episodes of a very strong season

I'm surprised to see such a lukewarm response to this episode, I loved it. I giggled a lot, and those movie references were just brilliant. Overanalysis aside, the overall plot was a really good idea and hilariously executed. I felt I was missing out a bit by not being familiar with anything Agatha Christie.

After watching today's new episode i just noticed something, Big Mac could pull a whole house behind him in "Hearts and Hooves day" but yet he has trouble lifting a cake in todays episode...that must be one heavy cake O.O"

Definately an awesome episode, i am surprised that Rainbow Dash the element of Loyalty ate some of the cake, Rarity the element of Generousity ate some and Fluttershy the element of Kindness. Sherlock Pinkie and Dr Twilight fan arts i am now planning

    Dear Princess Celestia;

Today I learned that my friends are a bunch of sneaky, cretinous, cake thieving bastards...

True. Have to say I was hoping for a Murder on the Orient Express 'they all did it' solution, and I almost got it!

My favourite part? The little character moment with Twilight letting Pinkie solve the last part of the mystery. It would have been much easier story-wise to have that be a source of conflict (Twilight ignoring Pinkie's frustrations) but instead she noticed Pinkie getting upset and sorted it out. Character progression and subtlety wooo!

Man this episode was gooooood :D
Got to enjoy it with the guys at the Nottingham meetup.
Lots and lots of funny moments in this. Best part was BY FAR the silent movie reference, followed by James Bond reference, followed by Japanese-samurai-ninja-esque reference (idk if this was supposed to be something more specific?). But honestly that was definitely one of the best sequence of events I think that has ever come out of this show! Also what was VERY good about the episode was that the outcome wasn't completely predictable (at least I thought it wasn't).
Solid and enjoyable episode; looks like we're more than ready to go out of this season with a bang :D

OK I loved this episode seriously there were some parts that genuinely made me LOL, some parts that stick out:
    The Donut Joe Bond parody
The french Griffin silent movie parody
    The Ninja mule parody
    Pinkie Eating the fourth wall

I mean the Episode won my favour as soon as I saw this part:

Say what ya like, I really like the bond films :p

I was expecting a parody of either Murder on the Orient Express or Sherlock Holmes but none were actually explored apon. The parodies felt a bit forced and the entire episode felt like filler.

I can see why a lot of people would be a little upset by this episode not being up to scratch, but in terms of watching it through a kids eyes? This episode was amazing! Cake eating, mystery, funny French accented Gryphon, and everything working out in the end!
That being said, I did laugh at a lot of it, but it wasn't as... I dunno, hard hitting as other episodes? It was more light hearted.

I finally got to watch the episode, I liked the references everywhere. Also, was the Celestia at the end with the cake the same picture from the previous episode? And did anypony stop derpy? Sorry if they are obvious questions, I had to watch it on my iPod.

Pinkie's imaginations of the other competitors' ways of destroying the cake is what made the episode for me. Loved the dastardly, James Bond and samurai references.
