More or less this. They seemed to have the classic swarm mentality - effective when in large numbers but individually they were weak and lacked discipline, which is why the Mane 6 were able beat a (relatively) small number of them, but then got completely outnumbered when they reached the element room.
I saw them very much like a swarm of insects, which probably means they wouldn't survive when they were scattered at the end since they were no longer in a swarm and the queen was separated off from the rest of them.

Even if they got to the element room they would be doomed even if they didn't get their first, they would be staring at a large double door that needs Celestia's magic to open, in other words, they'd be damned if they did make it anyway.

And I said I would leave this alone.

Yes, everypony is almost certainly right about the swarmlings being weak and uncoordinated. But we're looking at... what... ten to one plus odds (and sorry, judging by the views of them all ranked up, there's PLENTY of room to work). Even 3:1 or so will cream just about any group which doesn't hold together (they didn't), unless there's a effective strength difference of adults to preteens. Okay, maybe the changelings were just too dumb to try properly or....
NO! STOP! BAD DUSTY! BAD DUSTY!

Ok, so I just got done watching this for my fourth time.
I mentioned before that my only complaint was "Mare and Colt". This just got worse as I noticed Shining Armor did in fact say "She wouldn't only be getting a HUSBAND" so that word is a thing. It exists. SO WHYYYYYYY WOULD YOU SAY "MARE AND COLT"?? That's silly enough as it is, as it pretty much translates to "Woman and Boy". But now that I realise husband is a word that is in fact used in Equestria I'M EVEN MORE CONFUUUUUUUSED D:

Aaah, but I'm still in love with this episode.

Okay everyone, for Dusty's sanity let's change the subject. If Chyrsalis could have put Twilight anywhere, why did she put her right next to Cadence? Seriously, and by messing with Twilight she almost garaunteed that the thin wall seperating the two would break.

I would imagine for the pshycology of the thing. Twilight know's she's close but can do little about it. What Chrysalis didn't count on was her finding Cadence and making the whole thing possible. Plus if Twilight wondered of then Chrysalis might not have been able to teleport her back to Canterlot, making the rest of the mane 6 suspicious and worried when Twilight didn't turn up. In short, to mess with Twilight and remove any margin for concern.

Probably to torment her because she is only just out of reach to do anything under Canterlot, untill she found Cadence anyway

My take (don't worry, I'm not going to crack on this one): Proximity. That looked like a matter phase spell, rather than a teleport. Or if it is a teleport, maybe there's some sort of direct distance / energy drain relationship or she just isn't in Twi's class when it comes to that particular spell.

After all, you throw your enemies/prisoners in the dungeon/cells because you have a dungeon handy. You don't ship them to the next city over.

Okay, it obviously didn't work, but in QC's defence, it only had to hold them a short time until the wedding was over, it was guarded, the invasion was immanent along with associated I WIN criteria.
Only really failed due to underestimating the sheer badassery of those trying to save the ones they love from horrible doom. Which is the entire point of the episode really, and what got her in the end.

I have to say that is one line I didn't fully understand at the end, when QC says "What a wonderful yet ridiculous piece of sentiment" even though she knows the power of love because well, she just used it to defeat Celestia not 5 minutes ago, it's kind of like discords defeat of not noticing the ponies were no longer grey and dark anymore, the villains seemed to get pretty odd and rushed defeats.

You're right that the villains do get slammed down pretty quick. But with only 20 mins to work with, once you establish whatever Glowing Weak Spot / Uberweapon is going to be used, it has to be done fast and hard or you're using a large percentage of time with a defeat animation that could be instead showing a greater variety of awesomes.

And yes, wasn't the best line. In her defence (what, AGAIN?) she's a empathic vampire who is directly evolved to use love as a battery. Everypony else? Not so much.
Of course, completely and utterly wrong, but hey....

In the hope that Twilight would kill Cadence.

Not so much god from the machine, as IS the machine(gun).

Okay, that's an awful pun, even from here.
