Yes, I agree. After all, it was S1 that was successful in getting the show known in the first place, and when they made that, they had no idea that it would attract be such a huge adult fanbase. Keep the "brony shout-outs" subtle and small -- Fluttershy being a tree in "Hurricane Fluttershy" was ideal, because it was brief, it genuinely fitted into the storyline and a child could still find it amusing that one of the ponies was dressing up as a tree, without having to know that it was a fandom meme.

But you only have to look at Disney (in its good periods) to see what can be done: The Lion King is a U-rated cartoon, yet it has some pretty complex and "grown-up" themes in it. And I would love to see a more reflective, bittersweet song from someone -- something like "Feed the Birds" in Mary Poppins, which is a song I've loved for years. Tara Strong tweeted a few days ago that "We laugh in the face of 'target audience'", but I certainly don't think that meant she wanted to relegate the kids to a secondary position. If I see that in S3, I'm afraid I'll be thinking of shark-jumping...

Not a fandom meme, the writers started that one in "Over a Barrel". :)

Definitely a shout-out to the more older fanbase though, as are a lot of the callbacks, since the target audience is unlikely to notice or remember something that happened a year ago.

It could be taken either way. It may have been a reference to that little scene on the train in "Over a Barrel", but it could be a shout out to the fandom as it took the exchange and gave it a life of it's own. As you say though, the visual of Fluttershy dressing up as a tree does seem to be a joke aimed more at older fans.

Tbh you don't see any family for any of the Pegasus ponies.. nothing for Rainbow or Fluttershy sadly.

That I doubt... season 3 needs something to show the parents of Rainbow, Fluttershy, and Scootaloo... cause I can't imagine what they would be like.

I really cannot imagine what Rainbows parents would be like though. Are they colourful like her? Do they have a similar attitude? ect

For some reason I imagine them to be either hippie ponies, or those archetypal TV parents who stop at nothing to, in Rainbows case, reduce the percentage of her coolness.

I would like, that if there is the 65th rule, the CMC get's their cutie-marks before the show is cancelled. More songs. Definately. and Give Applejack a decent episode. and Rarity is getting a bit shallower as of late. More spike and rarity. some more trixie. some more luna. a lot more Scootaloo. Sweetie Bell and Applebloom are actually developed, but Scootaloo, while being totally AWESOME, doesn't really have much background information. Also, maybe a return or Pip. Although, without the Luke-From-Pra-fess-uh-Layton Accent. Also, as someone else said, maybe more of an overarching story, like S1, but keep it faint. Maybe something they're working for, and the episodes are stand-alone, but are all related to it. As long as the show stays as good as it is, then i don't mind

I think there should be an episode on how all the mane 5 met before Twilight arrived in Ponyville. Also there should be an episode in manehatten that would be interesting. Cadence and shining armor on their honey moon. Another idea is would like to see a new villain as well (more likely to be one) each villain so far had a goal. Nightmare moon wanted to conquer, Discord wanted chaos, and Queen Chrysalis wanted resources (food if you can't remember). There's more ideas but i don't want this post to linger too long.

I like the idea of setting an episode in Manehattan. We've seen in "Sweet and Elite" that an episode in a different town can work pretty well, and presumably the Oranges are still there -- so it could be a real live Applejack episode!

I agree with an episode in modern day Manehattan. Also more Scootaloo, more Twilight freak out and more Applejack. I'd also really like to see Celestia and Luna in the same place at the same time, maybe even having an actual conversation.
This. Derpy showing up, Fluttertree, the various references made in the time travel episode, this kind of stuff is the ideal level of brony recognition, jokes and shout outs that don't become obvious unless you are either a brony or just an older viewer but remain amusing to kids and don't stray from the themes and messages of the actual show. As has been said, I sincerely hope that the shark remains unjumped.

Put a new main character pony in main 6 characters and call it Core 7 or mane 7. that would be cool

More luna, scootaloo's family maybe? Oh and Applejack needs a decent episode. Wouldn't mind a super finale with all the current (and future?) villains ganging up with some super awesome epic clash with the mane6+ luna/celestia... various others! Ok maybe that's a bit much.
