Or would that make her more Mary-sue then people think she already is?

It seems that teleportation is a spell any skilled magic user can learn, so yeah, I'm guessing Cadance could if she wanted.

It's a really good question. I don't think we've seen Cadance teleport in the show -- I'm trying to recall whether she did so in "Three's a Crowd", but offhand I don't remember it happening.

If we accept the books as canon, Cadance is in a unique position: as she was born a pegasus, she's the only alicorn who wasn't born a magic user and so became a mage from a standing start when she ascended. Does that mean her magic is weaker than that of the other alicorns, maybe even than the likes of Starlight Glimmer? I don't know, but apart from her specialised love magic we haven't seen Cadance use spells as powerful as those Celestia, Luna and Twilight have cast at various times.

Discounting Pumpkin Cake's little "magical surge", the only non-alicorn ponies we've definitely seen teleport in the show are unicorn Twilight, Starlight and (if you allow the start of EqG1) Sunset Shimmer. I'm pretty sure Trixie can't teleport, since it would be a very useful skill for a showmare and I'm sure we'd have seen it by now. Rarity is more like "ordinary" unicorns, who seem to have only levitation, hornlight and cutie mark-related spells (gem finding in her case).

If I was absolutely put on the spot, my guess would be that Cadance does have the basic ability to teleport as part of her alicorn magic, but that she would find it harder work than the other alicorns. Maybe she'd end up getting a little scorched, the way Twilight did when she teleported back in "The Ticket Master". It's all guesswork unless the show ever gives us a certain answer, of course!

Yes by vertue of being a magic user.
But what her abilities are in that spell I don't know.

Cadance has the most fascinating, under-explored backstory of any of the characters of the show. It's heavily implied that she's a direct descendant of Princess Amore, who ruled the Crystal Empire before Sombra, but was turned into a statue and the pieces were shattered. If Amore had any descendants either they weren't in the Crystal Empire at the time or else they were hidden away for a thousand years with the rest of the Crystal Ponies.

The obvious implication is that Cadance is a very distant descendant of Amore, born a thousand years and dozens of generations later. If that were the case Amore's genes should have been so diluted there shouldn't be any familial resemblance between them. (Unless magic explains it.)

The other option is that Cadance was a much closer relative of Amore, say her daughter or granddaughter or niece or something like that. Close enough relations to explain why they look similar. If Cadance was a baby in the Crystal Empire when it disappeared she could have been retrieved somehow and placed in thee woods for the Earth ponies to find (as described in Twilight's chapter book).

My theory here relies on Celestia being something of a puppetmaster. If Celestia knew that the Crystal Empire was due to reappear then a couple of decades before it was due to reappear she could have extracted Amore's baby from whatever nether-space the Empire and its citizens were being held in and the left her to be adopted by an Earth pony family and brought up in an Equestrian fashion. This meant that when the Crystal Empire returned a couple of decades later Cadance was ready to return to her old home (without even knowing it was her old home) and defeat King Sombra.

This might also explain how Cadance got a picture of the Crystal Heart as her cutie mark when presumably she'd never seen the Crystal Heart in her life.

    Thoughts?

the whole 'Amore is Cadence's mother' is a headcanon of mine although my version of Amore is a pegasus with natural magic from living in the Crystal Empire and her daughter (Cadence) was transported away from the empire with her injured mother with Sombra began his revolution

That's a very interesting headcanon, and I like the incorporation of the stuff from the comics! I don't personally subscribe to it, partly because I'm not a great fan of the "Puppetmaster Celestia" trope, but it would make an excellent fic.

Also, "unless magic explains it" is pretty much the MLP equivalent of "a wizard did it", so you can use it whenever you want. :D

I sometimes like to make up headcanons without necessarily committing to them, just to see if they work or not. As far as the "Celestia as puppet-master" thing goes she clearly tries to manipulate things and people to some extent, as seen by her not telling Twilight the whole truth about Nightmare Moon in the series premiere. I don't think she's evil and she's certainly not in control of everything, but I do think she likes to give things a discreet "nudge" every once in a while.

Of course, but that's boring. :D
