"I am sure somepony has it under control, after all the Mayor isn't looking for pegasi to deal with it just yet." Lightning leant back, relaxing on his stool despite the terrible conditions just beyond the door. Another flash of lightning lit the low room and the shadows cast on the four ponies seemed darker and more ominous than normal. Lightning Flash suddenly had a feeling deep in his gut that something wasn't quite right. A feeling that this storm was out of control and that it was only going to get worse.

Instead of voicing his concerns he tried to drown them. Ordering another cider he took three large mouthfuls and continued in what he hoped was a relaxed tone. "If I know anything about storms then I am sure it will blow itself out even if there are no pegasi controlling it." Unfortunately for Lightning his body betrayed him and both wings stood out by his sides displaying his concern. Deep inside his being, next to the feeling of worry was the urge to be up there in the cloud layer, surrounded by the high charge, using his talent, being Lightning.

Starfall had no fear of storms, at least when when was on solid ground, but the rumbling of the thunder was getting louder and deeper and her wings quivered in worry. 'What will happen if the storm does get out of control? Are there enough weather ponies around to calm it down?' She noticed Lightning Flash's wing language. If a pegasi who's job, name and cutie mark were lightning related was worried, it must surely be bad. She slid a bit to the barman and ordered another drink. No, one drink wasn't nearly enough on a night like this.

Lightning saw that Starfall's wings were twitching and watch her order herself another drink. He could tell she was nervous and he was now certain that she could see that he was too. "Er, Sh-Sh-Shocklight" He started up "You don't think that we should perhaps just take a look outside and see if the storm looks good. It should only take a second and I am sure everything is fine."

Before Fury had a chance to respond about his cider, Shocklight was off his stool. "Another time, perhaps," he said, turning to Lightning, who was visibly quivering. Rather unlike him to be nervous about a storm. Then again, Shocklight was somewhat nervous too. A storm of this magnitude wasn't unheard of, but his inability to control it from the ground was the most worrying. Unless it was some kind of Wonderbolt training exercise, he struggled to think of anypony else capable of generating such strong weather.

He stepped away from the bar, giving him space to stretch his wings a little. "You're right," he said, nodding to LF. "I think it's time we took a close look outside. Standard strong weather procedure - observe the nature of the weather, hands-on risk assessment, redirection, control, and if necessary, extinguish," he recited from memory of the emergency weather protocols. He turned to the other two pegasi. "Starfall, I think it's best for you to remain grounded, and preferably indoors. Fury, we may need your help, but I can't advise wearing that much armour in an electrical storm."

He went up to the door and opened it a little. The bar area immediately filled with the sound of thundering rain. "Are we ready?"

Fury grunted and looked at the Pegasi in front of him, before he had a chance to answer, Shocklight had stood up and walked towards the door. He muttered something about checking the storm out and needed his help. Sure he was a good flier, but he knew nothing of putting out storms. Still, it could be dangerous to the Town, and they needed his help apparantly.

"I agree, Starfall, you should remain here, let me store my armour somewhere safe." He looked at the barkeep, "Can I put it behind there until I return?"

    "Sure thing."

"Right, I'm ready." Fury said turning to Shocklight.

Wasn't quick enough I see, I will have to edit it.

We were just too quick for you ;)

Lightning turned to Starfall and said "Sorry, I have been out voted on this one. You better stay here" Then leaving his cider on the bar he vacated his stool and, stretching his wings, followed Shocklight to the door. "I guess we just fly out there then" Once again the blue Pegasus stretched "but can we wait for a bolt of lightning? It would look a bit more dramatic." Glancing to either side and seeing no reaction from his companions he rolled his eyes and responded "Fine, scratch the the lightning lets just do this."

Pushing past Shocklight and opening the door fully Lightning allowed in not only the sound of hard rain but a hollowing, malevolent wind that whipped around the room and ruffled the feathers on his wings. Feeling the full force of the storm didn't fill him with fear but instead with a feeling of exultation. THIS was it! This was what it was about and with that feeling rising inside he dashed into the turbulent skies.

As Fury took a step outside and looked towards the sky, he had no idea what he was doing, and no idea what they were going to attempt, but he was determined to help either way. He guessed he was just to follow the other two's lead and attempt to calm the storm. He wasn't afraid, he was more...worried that he may make things worse. He looked at the other two for confidence, the experts as it were. Without caution Lightning took to the air leaving Fury on the ground. Well, better get moving, he lifted to the air.

Starfall wasn't going to argue with the advice of the others. She shirked back from the door, fearing what the storm may become. She worried about the safety of the three, especially Fury. Whilst he was an exceptional flier, he was no weather pony, and she had come to accept the strongly silent pony as a friend.

Shocklight was a little more cautious as he observed the storm from the ground. There was no way a single pony was doing all this, he was sure of it. A speck of blue was visible high above - Lightning Flash weaving around bolts of his namesake like the talented showoff that he was. It was time to get to work.

As he unfurled his wings, a static charge rolled around and all up and down Shocklight's wings, dispersing when it reached the metal trim. Okay, he thought, that's a little stronger than I'm used to, but at least the trim's doing its job. With ease, he took to the air and flew right up at the thundercloud. Flying vertically was hard, but necessary. He had to pierce the cloud and make it through to the other side; observe the damage from above. It would give him an idea of the size and shape of the thing, too. However, he effects of the cider were becoming noticeable; his wings felt a little numb, but he pressed on.

BOOM! And a bolt of lightning missed hitting him by mere inches to his right... natural adrenaline kicked in and he sped further into the sky... passing his colleague rapidly and hitting the bottom-most cloud layer...

Fury was more confident in the air than he was on the ground. He had the speed to dodge and weave through the clouds and lightning strikes. He had a plan, instead of physically trying to tackle the storm, he would play the waiting game and circle the storms in case his companions needed desperate aid. He was sure that he would get in the way if he tried to help inside the clouds. As he waited he watched Shocklight and Lightning Flash work their magic in awe. Fury took a dive under the clouds to see if anyone below needed a hand. The streets were empty below, noone was stupid enough to be outside in this weather.

    Except maybe one...

Lightning had decided to stay in the centre of the clouds for the moment, basking in the sheer ferocity of the storm. The wind wiped through his mane and ruffled the navy feathers on his wings. He loved it. However he had a job to do and knew it. Quickly rolling over and flying vertically upwards the pegasus burst through the cloud layer and into the golden light of Celestia's sun. Catching Shocklight's eye he nodded hoping to say to the other weather pony that he was ready to do what he was supposedly good at.

Starfall peeked her head outside the pub door and tried to look for the three brave pegasi. The rain stung her eyes and made if impossible to see. Suddenly she felt as if the whole world had been torn apart. There was a pure white flash and a blanket of heat, alongside it was a deafening crash.

She shook in place as she regained composure. There, mere feet infront of her was jagged, lightning scorched ground.

Shocklight caught Lightning's eye while looking around. The cloud was huge. It'd take some masterful redirection and manipulation to handle it. He doubted they'd be able to handle it entirely, but there didn't seem to be anypony else about... He nodded to Lightning Flash in signal, took a diving roll around and ducked through the cloud to get enough speed up to curve around and start redirecting the cloud. Best bet was to send it Northwest, toward the mountainside. Forest had too much chance of catching fire and all other directions would head through the centre of Ponyville.

Fury peeked back down to see if Starfall was safe, once he knew she was, he looked at the other two, they seemed to be trying to move the cloud away from Ponyville, it must be too large for them to get rid of it. Fury looked around, he noticed Shockflight nodding towards the mountains. Of course, that would be the safest place to move the cloud. Maybe he could go ahead and make sure the way was clear for them; yes, that would be the best course of action for the Pegasus, a Pegasus that is way out of his league.

Spotting Shocklight's plan he nodded but inwardly sighed; they could have bucked this storm out, Lightning was sure of it however responding to his colleague he also dove downwards. The sheer acceleration was always impressive but nose diving vertically was almost scary. The moisture in the clouds stung his eyes, he didn't have and tears formed in his ducts as his body fought to keep his eyes functioning under the intense pressures. As his velocity increased he felt the G-forces acting on him rise proportionally. This was quick.

Part of him didn't want to stop. To slow meant to be slow!

As he tore downwards static electricity raced along to water on his body and sparks seemed to fly off him. His wings, that had been tucked in at his sides, now opened and the drag instantly slowed him. He hovered, looking for Shocklight but the other pegasi was no where to be seen.

Shocklight was quite busy keeping a constant speed to realise Lightning had slowed to a stop. He sped through the cloud in the direction of the mountains; then, reaching the edge of the thunderstorm, curved upwards and turned 180, drawing back to the beginning of the formation so he could curve around and take the same path again. Successfully reaching a rapid enough rate of passes would create a wind tunnel capable of moving the cloud northwest, but he needed Lightning to take up the reins too or they wouldn't have enough speed to get the cloud out of Ponyville. That was the really important thing right now. Once out of Ponyville's general area, they could extinguish it or send it on its way, whichever was easier.

Agreed. I'm not sure how we would go about that, however. Maybe she needs persuading off the ground.

Starfall tried to retreat back into the the pub, but found that the frightened bar pony had locked it the door behind her. 'No!' She screamed, battering on the window with her hoof 'Let me back in!'. She started to panic. She was stuck outside with a volatile storm trying to rip the world around her apart. She looked up once more, she could see no sign of the three other pegasi, but the storm appeared to be moving. 'Not quickly enough' she thought begrudgingly. Her mind began race. Where is there shelter? It was late at night so most everypony was asleep. She would have to go home.

Her house was on the other side of Ponyville, but she knew the short cuts and flew low and quick. It had meant running under where the storm was thickest. Fat drops of rain were soaking her mane and tail the added weight stress on her wings. Luckily the lightning seemed to have kept at bay for her flight, but she could still here the odd tremendous rumble through the roar of rain. Her house was nearly in sight now, just through the Sunny Days Park and she would be there. The park in question looked gloomy and dark, but the trees that lined the edge gave some respite from the rain. Still flying, she took the dryer route.

The underneath of the tree line was remarkably dry, Starfall was already finding it easier to fly. She landed underneath one tree, to trying and remove the excess water from the mane and tail. Then, all of a sudden, she felt the world tear itself apart again. Brilliant white light, brilliant heat, and a rumble that sounded like it came from a great beast under the earth. She turned in time to she a branch fall from the tree. She tried to move in time, but she couldn't. Her leg was trapped. The dry floor beginning to alight with flame from the intense heat of the lightning bolt. Starfall screamed, her voice lost to the storm.

How's that for trying to get back into the story?

Still hovering in the air under the storm, Lightning was looking furiously for Shocklight, he head quickly redirecting his eyes in as many directions as possible. Has he run? Lightning thought to himself No he won't of... will he? A deep worry started to seep into his veins but he cast that aside and continued with what he needed to do to save Ponyville. Lightning pushed hard with his wings against the turbulent air and soared forward but as he did the very heavens seemed to be ripped asunder.

The brightest flash of lightning the experienced Pegasi had ever seen soared down from the clouds in front of him. The pulse of super charged plasma ripping the fabric of the air in front of him. Singeing the front of his mane. As he ducked backwards he watched as it tumbled from the heavens, downwards. His eyes still dazed by the intensity of the light emitted he did not see where the bolt struck on the ground until bright orange flames leap up and danced manically around the base of a tree. The shadows that the fire cast lit a dark figure.

    It was Starfall...
