Hey everyone! This thread is the place where I (and others if they wish) show off MLP creations made of LEGO.

I previously documented the process of building LEGO Rainbow Dash, and that can be found in it's own thread here:
    https://ukofequestria.co.uk/threads/lego-rainbow-dash.16963/

The main reason for starting this new thread is that I'm now building a LEGO Scootaloo, to be a companion for Rainbow Dash. Keep your eye out for updates.

So, about LEGO Scootaloo. I don't expect many to remember, but I actually started designing her back in early 2017, as shown in this post. But I was still pre-occupied with Rainbow Dash then, so I didn't really get any further than what you see there.

Fast forward to 2019, and it's about time I got on with her! She'll be the same scale as LEGO Dash, and will use pretty much the same design and building techniques. I'm hoping she'll be a much quicker job, partly because she's just smaller, and also because I've learnt so much already putting Rainbow together. Plus I'm helping myself by giving her a simple standing pose (all 4 hooves on the ground!).

I wasn't quite happy with the outline I'd made before (particularly the body and head), so I pretty much started again. This stage is kinda crucial as it defines how the rest of her will turn out. Even though I've traced the outline off various source images, there's a little bit of artistry required in making it all fit together nice. So here's 'Scootaloo mk II':

I paid particular attention to her eye, as I think this is key to selling her character. I used a scene from Crusaders of the Lost Mark as reference, when she's (fittingly) looking up at Rainbow Dash. It hopefully gives more life to her, rather than simply staring blankly ahead.

The next stage is more tricky, where I outline her 3-dimensional shape. Tracing from images doesn't always work, as front-end views often have an exaggerated perspective applied to them. I use Powerpoint to plan things out, and things can often get a little chaotic:

And yes, that's a Funko figure; I took those myself!

This is where I'm at now. The blue and red outlines were positioned as best I could, but they're still open to tweaking.

The next stage will be to fill in the gaps between those outlines, to 'sculpt' the final body shape. This process is less reliant on tracing/logic and more down to one's eye of what looks right. Things like the ears, tail, mane, cutie mark and eyes will be added later, but for the time being what I'll end up with is a generic filly model. This is exciting as it does present the opportunity for other characters to be made, should I wish to in the future.

Hope you enjoy the write up. More will follow soon (I hope!).

Update on LEGO Scoot. I've now modelled the shape of her legs and body up to the neck line.

Furthermore, the legs are fully designed with the internal structure to hold them together. This is in contrast to how I did Rainbow Dash; with her I only made the outer shell to begin with. Then I was left with a painstaking process of going back through all of her to design the innards. Hopefully with Scootaloo, I can design her more efficiently. Things certainly seem to be progressing at a nice pace.

In other LEGO pony news; Rainbow Dash will be going on display at a show in Reading in just under a month's time:

This will be her 5th public appearance, after previously visiting Manchester, Swindon, Birmingham and UK Ponycon in Bristol.

I've now modelled Scootaloo's head, ears, mouth and nose. (knees and toes, knees and toes..)

Now I'll be starting to work on her eyes; one of the trickier parts of the built. The real challenge is getting her to look good from all angles.
