Since his first encounter with the Zoney at the edge of the forest, Ursa had stayed hidden. The unnatural horrors that seemed to lifelessly shuffle along the few trail routes in the forest. He had lost track of how long he'd been away, how long it had been since he,d seen another living pony. It wasn't by choice alone that he was now venturing to Ponyville. A few days ago an encounter with one of these abominations, left him little choice but to use his trusty folding spade as a weapon. The result well he still had the handle he tutted to himself. However it was the need to see who if anyone of those he knew where still alive. So this was it a run in to Ponyville for supplies for others for information. He had made sure to stock up on a few healing herbs some extra sticky sap for traps and other assorted agents. The Zebra he met when first exploring those strange woods sure knew what she was on about. The thought of how she may had fared caused him to stop and heave a heavy sigh. The following silence however betrayed something in the distance. A low guttural moan. One of those things is close by, very close by. It must have been still until it had heard him approaching. He cursed himself for being so inattentive he knew far better than that out here.
It broke cover in a frenzied shambling sprint a seeming blood lust in its eyes. Ursa took the hefty stick he had lashed to his saddle bag and waited. Standing his ground stick clenched between his teeth, he resisted the urge to flee until the zony was almost upon him. There was a sickening crunch as his makeshift weapon struck home. The reanimated pony lurched and fell backwards limp. He didn't wait to see if he had finished it Ursa bolted for the forest edge to civilization. He did not stop he ran keeping distance as best he could from any Zony he saw. Exhausted breathing hard and heavy he made it to the edge of the town. This place may have not felt welcoming but at least he might find cover.
He ventured carefully in to the streets abandoned homes it looked deserted. His stomach lurched as he pondered what had become of the residents. Slowly he started to explore trying to orientate himself. Need to find those supplies come on Ursa get it together. He wandered as he stumbled through the remains of the once bright and colorful town if anypony had survived.

"thanks" she said taking the pouch from Pub Crawler and hooking it onto the belt "my head while be fine just a tad sore from falling down that tower is all and no need to worry about the glomping" she smiled as she finished hooking the last pouch onto her belt, looking back to Pub Crawler she could see that he seemed a little tense though she wasn't surprised even coming across living ponies wasn't always the safest, some only seeking to prolong their own lives by any means necessary even if that meant end sompony else's, though she had a gut feeling she could trust Pub Crawler and that was good enough for her.

"well i glad that firework didn't backfire on you" looking back into the town "it sure did draw a large crowd though" she said which only served to confuse her as to the current situation the streets looked almost empty yet the previous night it wasn't possible to really move without drawing some form of attention, though right now there wasn't much activity so thats ll that mattered "oh and im Eiro, nice to meet you to" she finished.

Forcing herself to slow to a gentle trot Puzzle came to the entrance of Ponyville. “Okidokes” she thought to herself “where to start”, being a complete stranger to Ponyville she didn't quite know where she could be the most efficient at finding someone, or some means to survival. “To be seen or not to be seen” she whispered, after all she wanted to be up high where, if there was any other living pony, she could see them, however, would she be better hiding, since not all ponies were as kind and good natured as the ones she had encountered over the years.

After passing many houses Puzzle came to a stop, noticing she was coming to the eastern entrance to Ponyville, spotting a derelict bridge she peered over into the river it was crossing. Not thinking about what she was doing Puzzle ecstatically galloped down to the water’s edge, she closed her eyes and bent her neck so that she could reach the water. She took a moment to take a deep breath and then plunged her head into the river and greedily guzzled as much as she could. That had been a mistake. She hadn't noticed the putrid stench emanating from the water in her rush. The Ponyville sewage works of course had not been tended to after the outbreak, so for some fleeing this very river had been seen as the perfect “latrine” in a time of need. After pulling her head away Puzzle gagged. And clawed at her tongue. And maybe barfed.

Puzzle got to her feet and gripped her stomach. “Urghh” she groaned and she began the slow walk over the bridge to the main entrance of Ponyville. Thankfully she didn’t bump into any uglies on her way, Puzzle grumbled as she began her assent to one of the roofs of a small house around three blocks from the town square. Rolling over onto her back she rubbed her stomach in an attempt to massage away the pain deep within her. She took deep breaths in a bid to cool down but could feel her vision blur into black as she fell asleep, although it was only mid afternoon.

When he reached the station at the north end of Ponyville he circled around it a few times looking for any zonies hanging around, there were two on the platform, an earth pony and a pegasus.

Hovering a safe distance above the station he thought 'If I can take one out quickly I shouldn't have much problem with the other, now how to do this ...ah' he lowered his altitude as much as he dared and positioned himself above the pegasus, he checked on the other one, luckily it was facing the other way, 'ugh, now or never' he thought.

He extended one of his blades and snapped his wings shut, he dropped like a stone and landed heavily on the zonies back, forcing it to the ground, quick as he could he stabbed for the base of its skull, the zony went limp.

He heard a guttural roar and looked up just in time to see the other one leap at him, panic kicked in, he wildly swung a forehoof at its face, he hit his mark sending the zony sprawling to the ground beside him, as it got back up Silent pulled his blade from the first ones head and turned to face the second. It roared and charged again, he was ready this time though, just as it reached him he sidestepped and stabbed at its head, the zony fell and slid to a stop.

Silent took a moment to calm himself, 'ok, breath' he thought, looking around for any others that might have heard he headed over to the station building. Slowly, he peeked through the broken glass in the door, just in case, seeing no movement he opened the door and made his way inside. Looking around he saw an upturned table with quite a few leaflets scattered around it, after a few minutes of searching through them he found what he was looking for, a map of Ponyville. Back outside he flew onto the roof and laid the map out in front of him.

He cast his eyes over the map, the first thing he wanted was to get his hooves on some more equipment, the blades on his bracer’s did the job but the knives in his bag were just kitchen knives, not really suited for what he needed them for. He spotted the town guard house, just south of the town square, that'd probably be his best bet for weapons, and they'd probably have a medical room there as well, 'I'll go there first' he thought.

South-west of the town was a farm, Sweet Apple Acres, 'going by the name, that's probably an apple farm' he thought 'perfect, should be able to get plenty of food there'.

“Guard house then the apple farm” he said, he heard a groan from below, he looked and his eyes meet the red eyes of an earth zony, it was stood on the platform staring at him,

“Yeah, time to go” he said as he folded up the map and placed it in his saddlebags “before you decide to invite your friends” he said to the zony, it groaned in response.

He took off and set his sights on his first stop, the guard house.

Tango let out a raspy cough has he pulled himself out of the chimney. About half way up he noticed that he had forgotten to change into his other clothes, so now his army uniform was covered in soot. He finally got up over the edge of the chimney. He feel over, landing hard on his hooves. His hooves gave out from under him, and he collapsed. Crawling up the chimney was hard work. He was glad he only had to do it once. He rolled onto his back, looked up to the sky to gauge the time. It still wasn't quite noon yet.

After collecting himself, he got up and brought his attention to his dirty uniform. His once proud jacket that herald all his accomplishments and summed up the culmination of his efforts was now unrecognizable. Months of work, sweat, blood, tears, effort, guts, pain, luck, and training went into earning every medal, every patch, every insignia, and every stripe.

He took off his uniform and beat it hard on the brick chimney wall. Dust and soot flew everywhere, and now his jacket was a tad cleaner. He did the same with his dress shirt and beret. He put those away as soon as he 'cleaned' them, into his saddlebag. His focus went back to his jacket now. He figured he'd sacrifice a water bottle in order to clean it off. He slowly and carefully poured water over all the colorful awards that the jacket displayed. Taking some time to recall the memories that went with them.

    • His Cavallian Medal of Bravery: a round, copper medal with a 24-karat solid gold coating attached with a purple silk ribbon. It's the most prestigious award in the military that doesn't go exclusively to army officers. It was awarded to him by the President himself. It was the award he lost his leg for. A true symbol of courage.
    • The stripes on each sleeve: They established his role as a Sergeant Major. A leader of leaders. Somepony who sees the big picture, and strives towards setting goals and meeting them. They demand the upmost respect to anypony who sees them.
    • His Special Operations patch: a sewn on patch that displays a gold arrowhead on a black background. It shows that Tango is a exceeds in physical training. An all-out, hooves-to-the-ground war pony. He's fast, strong, agile, and smart. The best of the best.
    • Twelve small brightly colored medal banners: They symbolized the major battles he's fought, eleven of them. The twelfth one, indicates which war he fought in. Each banner bring with it it's own memories. The heat of battle, and the ponies lost that he never saw again.
    • His command specialist insignia: Two tan sewn on arrows in an 'X' shape on the collar of the jacket. They shown he was a weapons specialist as well. A distinction given normally to earth ponies, but due to Tango's poor grasp on his magic. He became a weapons pony. It didn't take him long to master it.
    • Three medal pins: one bronze, one silver, one gold. The bronze one cleared him off to war. The silver put him in battle. The gold put him on the frontlines, tight in the thick of things and gave him the opprotunity to prove what he was worth.
    • The nameplate; A sewn on patch that reads the name "TANGO" in bold black letters. It's the first thing he received on the jacket when he got it at the reserve in Riversdale. He dreamed that one day he'd fill the jacket with many wonderful, colorful awards. A dream fulfilled. It was everything he'd ever wanted.
All his ambitions, all of his time, all of effort, all of his pain went onto the jacket and it pained him so much to see it like this. When the jacket was good and wet, he rang it out. Lots of dirt came slugging out. When he unrolled it, it looked like a military jacket again. He put it on but didn't button it up.

He also took out a metal clip out of his hair and a long, brown, straight, flowing mane that fell to his shoulders. He took the khaki vest from his pocket and tore a strip of cloth from it. He used his magic to tie the cloth around his head using it as a make-shift headband. The found a back eagle perched on the roof and abruptly tackled it. He wrestled it down and pluck off two tail-feathers and let it go. "Two tail feathers of an eagle in your headdress symbolizes a warrior." he could hear his grandma say.

"I am a warrior." Tango whispered to himself.

It had taken a moment for Dusks eyes to adjust to the sunlight. He was standing on the left of the stage in the town hall. He looked around the interior, some of the buildings interior supports had fallen.
He noticed something strange about the wreckage of the building, the glass from broken windows was on the inside and the main doors were laying on the floor but again they too were inside.
Trotted along the stage slowly, amongst the detritus from the fallen supports there were stones. 'Zonies can't use tools can they?' The thought worried him.
"I hope not." He said quietly.
Dusk looked around for a way to the upper levels, after a few seconds he spotted the beginning of a spiral stairwell on the left wall. It ran along the walls of the hall, he could see some sections had fallen away, care would have to be taken. Like outside banners hung from horizontal poles, these were less degraded than those on the outside, the sun crest was clearly emblazoned and moving in the slight wind.
Having looked to see if the coast was clear he hopped down from the stage, he paused, and removed his soft shoes, putting them into his saddlebag. He need those to last, they were only designed for short term wear and constant use would destroy them. Dusk trotted to the stairs, stepping over wooden beams and the remains of benches.
Dusk stopped, in his haste he hadn't spotted that a few zonies had seen him through the door way from the town square. They were making and a bee line for him groaning as they went. He picked up the pace, he counted three, but their noise would be enough to attract more.
He had gotten to the stairway before they had reached the entrance and began to climb as fast as he could. A bolt of light hit the wall near him causing him to jump from shock.
"Just what I needed!" He shouted sarcastically as he ran.

Dusk was sat leaned against a wall panting, he had made it about half way and was sitting on the balcony that ringed the interiors midsection. Normally he wouldn't be so tired, but dodging erratic magic was energy consuming.
Looking up he saw that the stair case was mostly intact here, although there was one section that was gone. Every so often he heard a guttural cry from below, they had attempted to chase him up only to find that they lacked the agility to deal with the large gaps and would fall to the ground below. Sadly it wasn't far enough to actually stop them trying again, and again, and again....
He moved to look down over the balconies edge, there were a lot more there now, all looking up at him very intently.
'Thats enough resting.' He thought to himself, as he moved away from the edge. He trotted to the next flight of stairs trying to ignore the constant unweavering states from below.
He heard a smash from above and glass rained down. A zony pegasus glided down towards him, he ducked out of the way of its first swoop and ran for the stairs. The zony was beginning to glide back for a second attack.
Dusk had reached the stairwell and was climbing, hoping that the pegasus hadn't learnt that trick. It was then inspiration struck him, Dusk quickly pulled out one of the tin cans. He quickly lined up his target and threw with all the force he could muster.
The can sailed through the air and hit the top of the pegasus's wing, just as Dusk had wanted. There was a snap as the fragile bone of the wing broke, the pegasus fell spinning out of control until it landed with a wet thud.
Dusk sighed with relief, and relaxed slightly. Although he was still trapped in here, he was safe for the time being.
He began his ascent again, taking his time and moving with care, a fall from here would be fatal... Even if he survived the fall itself somehow.
The rest of the climb was uneventful, with only a momentary hindrance caused by the section that had fallen. Using his climbing hook he had made short work of it, jumping and climbing with ease until he reached the door out onto the final floor of the town hall being the roof observation balcony.
He was smiling as he opened the door, with any luck he would find Zina, all he had to do was look for the largest group of zonies or dead bodies. 'Shouldn't be that hard, right?' He thought.

His smile dropped, in the midday sun he could see the devastation the plague had wrought in full. It was bad at street level but when viewed from up high...
The high wind buffeted at his cape making it flap noisily as he stood looking out at the remains of the town.
Dusk tried to turned his mind to other thoughts. 'Find Zina, let's focus on that first.'
He walked to the circuitous balconies edge and followed it around, using familiar landmarks to gain his bearings. Sofa and Quills, Sugarcube corner, the elementary school, Carousel Boutique and the temple. Those still stood although seemingly in varying states of repair.
Dusk thought for a moment about Zina, and where she might go. She knew better than to chase guild members, most of whom she didn't much care for. Why chase after them, and why go at this late stage of the outbreak?
His eyes opened wide in realization.
"The kid!" He said, lightly slapping his hoof off his head.
'That makes my next destination clearer then.'

Skulking from one house to the next Ursa made his way through the streets. Towns and Cities always made him feel uneasy but this quiet mid day scene before him was worse.
"Get the stuff and get out, can't do no good here now"
He spoke quietly his own words reassuring himself as he picked his way to a large town house. After breaking though a fence he found a large weed choked garden. It would have been someponys pride and joy once. He headed to the shed at the back taking great pains and time to check his surroundings. If the Everfree forest had taught him one thing it was to keep his head on a swivel. Hmm quiet as the grave he thought as he slipped across the well lit garden. As he expected the shed was a mess looks like it had been raided before hand. Even though a few minutes of searching the dusty boxes and detritus.
"HAH Looks like its some ponies birthday"
He held aloft a compact yet sturdy folding spade. At least it was worth the effort he mentally patted himself on the back. Clipping it to his saddle bags Ursa also took a moment to grab some of the fruit and veg seeds left behind. If nothing else I might be able to cultivate my own little paradise in the woods. He stepped back out and squinted up at the sky. Ok im somewhere east in Ponyville and its time, At that moment his stomach growled. I agree with you he chuckled tis time to eat. He looked though the town house doorway. Seemingly clear he crept in laying back on the cool slabbed floor. As he looked about it seemed he had found the kitchen. He was casting his mind over which of the mushrooms he brought with him to eat; when his eye was drawn to one of the dusty shelves.
"It really must be my birthday !"
Tucked in to one of the corners was a lone preserve jar the contents looked to be apple sauce. Taking it down carefully he popped open the lid and lapped at the contents. Sweet sweet apple sauce hehe must save some a rare smile broadened his face. At least somethings are going right.

Trotted swiftly with his prizes towards the front of the house. He slammed to a halt nostrils flared that smell sickly stench. He was stood looking at the front door of the house. Two doors left and what looked to be a small small closet to the right. The smell seemed to emanate from one of the doors to his left. It was confirmed moments later when the gentle sound of hoof steps came from the end door. Ursa grabbed his hefty stick and quietly edged to the doorway. It stood in the room swaying one wing only upon it back. It was a young Pegasus filly once anyway, now just another of those monsters. He kept his gaze upon it no need to disturb ill just creep out the front door. A draft from behind him made him shudder as he backed away from the door slowly. Wait his eyes popped wide open draft ? there was not a breath of wind earlier. The chill that coursed though his veins halted his progress. He swiveled his ears back and heard what he feared delicate sound of wing beats. He turned his head to see a hideous sight. Skin like parchment its one eye fixed upon him mane and tail ragged. He could see almost every bone in its poor body though its emaciated form. It opened its muzzle and let loose almost a howl.Ursa noticed as if jerked out of its stupor, the smaller filly reacting turning his way. Now that just aint fair the thought flashed though his head. A second later he was running towards the door, slamming in to it wood splintered and he tumbled in to the street. The two pegasi just a mere tail flick away.
"Ok Ok I take it back its not my birthday can it just be my lucky day then huh"
He made off along the street galloping hard however the Pegasus mare the one with the full wings simply flew gently behind him. This wasn't going to work Ursa had to doge over obstacles carts and debris it was only a matter of time before it would catch him. Think Ursa think come one what you got in that big ole bag of yours. Yes HAH thats it. He reached back still trying to tun as he did in to his saddle bag. That coast him time the flying zony lunged forward barely missed sinking its teeth in to Ursas flank. Finally after a second of rummaging he found the right glass jar. He held his breath and hopped for the best. He jumped spinning around as he did so flung the jar directly at the zony that had now flown higher above him. It all seemed to slow to a crawl the jar hit the Pegasus, the sticky sap contents seemed to explode it covered the zony as it dived at him. A cats whisker separated them as he fell backwards on to the hard road. The Zony swooped past with speed and sailed high back in to the sky it prepared another dive. It clamped its wings to its side and dove straight at him. Ursa lay there waiting on the road below.

" Thats it come on come get me" he hissed though gritted teeth.
The very last minute the Pegasus went to deploy her wings to break the dive it couldn't. The sap pinned them firmly to its side Ursa rolled away. The Zony hit the earth hard bone crunched as it did. It took a few moments for Ursa to gain his composure heart racing still. He stood up shakily to examine the crumpled mass a few feet away. Oh no aww no no no no his mind reeled again it was still alive. It couldn't move but it was still able to twitch its hind hoof and head. The a wail uttered forth from its lips and in reply was returned from a distance. The other Zony Ursa realized unable to fly it had fallen behind the chase. Where they communicating was this one calling it on. As if to answer a few seconds on the smaller one bolted around the corner and straight towards him. It was running swiftly but not smartly straight over the heap of the other zony. As it did so its hooves became entangled in the still sticky sap. It was snapped out of its forwards pace and smashed in to the ground.
" Who ever is up there looking after me you did good" He cast his gaze upwards genuinely thankful.

The two stuck zonys continued to snap and wail towards Ursa. It was only as he approached deciding it was better to silence them for good did he notice. Even though they where mere shadows of there former selves he couldn't fail to see the resemblance between them. It hit home same house older mare younger filly to much of a coincidence. It sank in to his soul at that moment saddening him almost to the point of tears.
"Im sorry im so very sorry I hope you both find peace together"
He made it quick he didn't want to relish the act but it had to be done. He felt wretched unclean himself he wanted to wash. He looked about no doubt all that racket would attract more. He had to move and quick just up the path a bridge alas the water was feted and stank as bad as the zonys. Close now to the town square he thought his stomach knotted itself. He didn't like being so far away from his beloved wilds, especially in these unsettling circumstances. He kept to the shadows out of the direct sun. Scanning the roof tops now as well as every corner he noticed a small out line of a pony curled up upon a small house roof. Cream coat orange mane he strained to see closer from his hiding point. Cant tell if zony or not I cant take the chance I guess. He tried to quietly make his way onwards hoping that the earlier commotion hadn't stirred up worse things ahead.

Dusk walked along the balcony looking down at the streets and buildings below attempting to divine the safest route. He noticed that the zonies in one of the streets near the town square seemed to be following something. The way they were packed together was too organised to be just a random gathering.
His thoughts turned to Silent, despite his attempts to stay neutral toward the pegasus, Dusk couldn't help but wonder how he was getting on.
As his eyes wandered away from the pack of zonies they fell upon a small cream figure that was curled up on a rooftop. 'Could be a zony. But since when do they sleep?' He thought trying to focus on the shape. 'Besides they look too clean. Might be worth checking out.'
He continued to scan the area, the location he wanted was to the southwest. He walked around to face that direction and looked around, strangely the buildings this side of town were in less of a state of disrepair. It was then he noticed something strange on the ground in front of the balcony lay the bodies of a few ponies dressed in guards uniforms. It was obvious from here that they hadn't been victims of the undead masses, they lacked the tell tale signs of a zony attack. From the way that the bodies lay it looked like they had fallen, or been pushed. Something really bad had happened in the town hall, Dusk added it to his growing list of things to investigate later. It took him a moment to locate the building he wanted, a few trees had obscured it from view but moving around the balcony had revealed it.
Dusk knew that going back down into the hall would be a stupid idea, no way he'd survive that horde, which from the sounds that were coming from the door, was only getting bigger. That only left one option, one he really, really hated.
He sighed and walked around to the northern side of the balcony. Glancing up at the flag on the pole at the top of the town hall. The wind was strong, he wasn't sure if that would make his life easier or harder. Dusk closed his eyes and took a deep breath, this is the part he hated. He opened his eyes and set them to the horizon, then he ran forward and launched himself from the balconies railings. In the moment of confusion where gravity was still deciding if he should fall or fly Dusk pressed a button on his saddle.
With a click two poles quickly unfolded from the sides of the saddle, dragging a taut leathery material behind it. The wind caught the new wings jolting Dusk upwards sharply causing him to let out a surprised yelp. He gritted his teeth, and began to steer by shifting his body weight he steered to the right aiming to spiral over the town square and round to the south west.
As he passed over the square he looked down at the cream figure on the roof top.
"Hey, wake up. You've got company!" He yelled down as he passed.
'Not sure if they heard me, but I tried.' He thought.
He continued to wheel around gliding over streets and buildings, actually he was more skimming them... Oh no.
"Dammit Dad! You didn't fix it, did you?" He shouted irritably.
His angle of decent was too steep, just like with the last job. This landing wasn't going to be pleasant.

Puzzle’s head snapped around to face the voice of a pony she had just heard, she opened her eyes slowly because of the sticky residue that had formed in the creases of her eyelids. Blinking a few times she began to focus on the figure soaring over her. “Sweet Celestia what the hay is that?!” she thought to herself staggering to her feet. That’s when she noticed the leathery wings keeping the figure in the air, “I’m sure an ugly wouldn’t be able to control that kinda contraption” Puzzle gasped wiping a slick of sweat from her brow.

Then she noticed the pony plummeting, at quite the steep angle. “I may not be the smartest of ponies, but I’m sure that isn’t a good sign” Puzzle thought. She began running and her stomach growled in response, pleading her to just lie down for a bit longer “shush!” she ordered her belly, whoever that pony was might be in trouble if she didn’t do anything! Not being the kind of pony to “Look before you leap” Puzzle forgot she was on a roof and continued running, past the tiles, and over the edge of the building. “Oh horse app-” she began, before crashing through beams that were once used for hanging baskets.

Puzzle slammed into the ground, winding herself. Seeing the pony curse to themselves she sprung to her feet and shouted “Hey you! I think you’re gunna-” she screeched to a halt and threw up in the nearest flower pot. “You yu- yo gunna go n’ crash” she wheezed whilst wiping her mouth and began wobbling over to where she thought the mock up pegasus might land.

"And that is why I hate flying." Said Dusk.
He was hanging upside down in a tree, the poles of the prosthetic wings from his saddle were caught amongst the branches. 'Good thing really.' Thought Dusk. 'The fall from here would probably hurt more than the crash.'
He struggled with the saddle, attempting to get it loose. All it did was make the branches of the tree shake.
Dusk put his hoof to his chin and thought for a moment.
    "Perhaps..." He said to himself.
He extended the hook of his toolkit in preparation and reached with the other hoof for the emergency release catch. With one click the mechanical lock released him and he began to fall, his hook being ready though he was able to snag onto a branch. He looked up at his saddle, it was a wreck as far as he could see, still it was custom made by his dad for him. He climbed a few branches and tugged it free and let it fall on the grass below. He climbed down and landed next to it.
From what he could see the poles for the wings were bent slightly but seems as though they could still retract, the leather making up the wings themselves were also ripped. He forced the poles back into place, they resisted valiantly but Dusk wouldn't accept defeat. Once he had done that he reattached the saddle to himself. 'Perhaps I can fix it in dads workshop.' He lied to himself, it was far beyond his skills and he knew it.

He'd landed, crashed.... Whatever, at the beginning of the tree line behind the Ponyville High School, just shy of his intended target. Only a few buildings stood between him and it now. He began walking southwest, if his hunch is right Zina will have gone to the Elementary school. Either to look for information on the kid or to find him.
"Why is nothing ever simple?" he muttered to himself.

"So, what brought you to..." Crawler started to say, when a shadow fell over him. Looking up, he squinted and saw a winged shape coming at him out of the sun. "Buck."

The zony crashed into him almost full bore, flaring its wings at the last moment. He fell to the ground, twisting onto his back as the beast leered down at him through its one good eye, the other half of its face lost somewhere. It screamed at him, revealing a mouth of blackened teeth. Thankfully zonies didn't have spit, or he would have been covered. But the familiar smell of dead meat invaded his nostrils again, making him gag slightly.

"Morning handsome." Driving his hooves up, they sank an uncomfortable distant into the Z's stomach before biting in and launching it off him. Wheezing, he quickly drew in a breath as it came back down again, eye locked onto him and Eiro. As it charged, he swung the bat, meeting it on the good side of its head. Slabs of flesh flew off, as a sickening crack sounded. The head lolled limply, body collapsing underneath it. A few more twitches was all it had left, before finally laying still.

As he stood catching his breath, Crawler felt the ground vibrate under his hoof. A tattoo was beating out, a group was on the move. Too much to hope the carnivals in town?

Looking at Eiro, he said quickly. "We've gotta move, now. I've got a safehouse nearby, unless you know somewhere better."

"ugh i'll never get used to that smell" Eiro said covering her nose while looking at the limp body then up and down the street, before both feeling in the ground a large group moving around and hearing the groans, she looked in the direction she felt the horde was approaching from catching a glimpse as they came into her line of sight 'id rather not be here to greet that group' she though to herself before turning to Pub Crawler "lead the way" she finished panicking wanting to get out of sight as fast as possible.

The crash had hurt more than he'd first thought, his leg ached from where it had made the acquaintance of a tree branch, causing him to limp a little.
He was walking along a road that, if his memory served him well, would bring him in front of the Elementary School. As he walked he noticed that the buildings to his right while had looked in better condition from above at ground level it was a bit different. With the exception of the odd broken window the exteriors of the buildings looked in good condition. It was when you look through the windows that told a different story. As he passed he looked into one building. The living room was ripped asunder, the furniture was left in splinters, a single scorch mark on the floor and a spray of red up a wall near the stairs. The thing was none of that looked like the handy work of a zony. As far as he had experienced it a unicorn zony would fire off as many spells as it could, not just one, and they would ignore furniture entirely.
'Something's wrong, besides the dead ponies walking, I mean.' He thought as he continued to walk on.

The Elementary school was smaller than he remembered, then again it had been a long time since he'd had any reason to be there. Those who were born into, or were selected by, Amethyst tended to be home schooled, home of course being the guildhall. Dusk did spend some time here though, he was one of the few that were selected young. His dad had worked hard to hide his work with Amethyst from him, but the guild leader of the time spotted potential in Dusk and approached him personally. It was only a day later that Dusk was removed from the school and his training began.
He'd been so lost in his thoughts that Dusk almost hadn't noticed that he was nearly at the door. He shook his head trying to loosen the sense of nostalgia.
"Concentrate you idiot, reminisce later." He muttered to himself.
Dusk looked at the door, it had been kicked in... quite recently too. The wood splinters surrounding the lock still looked unmarred by the elements.
'Someones been here then.' He thought as he pushed the door open and winced as it creaked loudly.
The school room looked untouched, desks and chairs were still neatly positioned in rows and books were still neatly stacked on the shelves. The only part that was in disarray was the teachers desk, papers scattered the desk and floor.
"Guess looters don't think there's much to take here."
Dusk trotted over to the desk, this proved it, Zina had been here.
He searched through the papers looking for something that could shed any light on where she had gone but found nothing.
"At least I can tell Raging Water she's likely to still be alive." He said, looking up from the desk.
He knew there was nothing more he could do here and walked out of the building, pulling the door to behind him.
Dusk thought about what to do next, he still had quite a few hours daylight left and Silent wouldn't be meeting him to late afternoon, assuming he survived his mission that is.
'Maybe the whoever set off that firework has seen her.'

The quiet streets echoed with the sound of splintering wood. Ursa determined it wasn't that far away and quietly crept along to where it had emanated from. He arrived to see the cream coated Pegasus from the roof top up chucking in to a plant pot. He removed his makeshift cudgel watching as the pony shakily staggered off. Well its moving like one of those things, but doesn't seem to ugh (he shivered at the thought) rotted . I guess the more I get rid of the better. He stepped out behind the Pegasus and called to it, preparing himself for a fight.
"OH nice I knew you undead things could fly but you can throw up, now that's a new trick".

Tango then proceeded to do what he got on the roof to do. First, he got the rope out from his saddlebag, and a dagger from his pocket. He got up to the edge of the roof, and flung the rope over the side measuring it. Using his magic, he cut it generously and tied it around the chimney. Now he had safe, easy access to all levels of the safehouse. This may become important in the future, especially if he got the radio working.

The radio! Tango got to a safer part of the roof and got the radio out along with the microphone, (called a receiver.) and he turned it on. The red light illuminated and white noise came blasting out of the speaker. He plugged in the receiver, and started turning the dial. He got the same result as before. He could hear the radio change frequencies, but he still got nothing but white noise every time he stopped the dial. He did this for about twenty minutes, and his patience was wearing thin. He was just about to give up when he heard something that alerted him.

Nothing. He heard nothing. The little red light indicated that it was on. Tango stuck his tongue out and focused. He turned the knob a hair to the left. Suddenly, he heard a high pitched, funky, whistling noise come from the radio. Tango softly whispered to himself, "I'm getting something." Something was right. A little glimmer of hope came into Tango's eyes. 'I'll move it a little to the right.' The funky whistling noise went away. 'Maybe a little to the left.' The white noise came back. Tango let out a huge sigh. He was just about to touch the dial again, but then he heard a voice. He looked around, but there was nopony there. Then, he noticed that the voice was coming -- from the radio.

Tango gently adjusted the dial to try to get a better signal. He got the silence again. He pushed the button on the receiver and talked into it.

"This is Sargent Major Roger L. Tango of Riversdale, from the Cavallian Armed Forces. Do you read me?" He heard nothing in response. He waited a few minutes. He heard a fuzzy voice, a mare. He couldn't make out what she was saying, but she seemed really intense. Tango tried talking again.

"This is Sargent Major Roger L. Tango of Riversdale, from the Cavallian Armed Forces. Do you read me?" The female voice babbled aimlessly. Tango figured he'd have to try touching the dial again. He moved the dial a hair to the right, and waited.

"Thunderstuck? Are you there? Thunderstuck?" the female voice called out. She was out of breath and completely frantic.

"This is Sargent Major Roger L. Tango of Riversdale, from the Cavallian Armed Forces. Do you read me?" Tango repeated, hoping she could hear him this time.

"Loud and clear, soldier." she responded "Where is Thunderstuck?"

"I don't know a Thunder Struck." Tango responded in a mono-tonal manner to the mare. He could care less about the whereabouts of this 'Thunder Struck'. However he responded with out thinking saying: "Well, what does he look like?" Tango caught himself right after he said that. This could possibly dissolve to a conversation about some idiot pony who probably went and got himself killed anyway. This was wasting precious time.

"He's a Royal Guard pegasus." she quickly responded. "Dark grey coat, silver mane, athletic build." Tango listened as she accurately described the pegasus who had given him the microphone to the radio. Tango shuttered at the statement he was about to make.

"I-I-I have some bad news about Thunderstuck."
Tango sighed. His voice was now more sincere. "He just committed suicide."

"OH, SWEET CELESTIA!" the mare on the other end wailed. "That's horrible! He was one of our most loyal and trustworthy colleagues."

"I didn't get to talk to him. But from what I saw, he seemed like a great stallion." Tango tried to offer some comfort. The was a long pause, maybe ten minutes. The mare took some time to collect herself.

"I'm sorry. Uh, you stated your name and rank. What where they again?" She sounded a lot more professional now.

"Sargent Major Roger L. Tango of Riversdale, from the Cavallian Armed Forces." Tango stated.

"Cavalla?" the mare was in shock. "Goodness! So, you must have been one of the military escorts. I wasn't aware there were any survivors after what had happened at the hotel. Don't tell me you walked all the way from Baltimare too? You're lucky to be alive! We even told the Cavallian Government that you had all perished. But, one of you is alive! This is excellent news!"

Wait, you told the folks at home that I'm dead?"

"Yeah, due to the damage of the building and the circumstances surrounding that, we had no reason to believe anyone survived." '
Yeah, ain't that the truth...' "While we're on the subject, what's the status of Baltimare?"

"The status of Baltimare is that there IS no Baltimare!"

"I see..." The mare was seeming to be doing something else. There was some rusting going on in the background. "I have your file in front of me here. Let's see... Roger Tango, right? Sargent Major, stationed at Ft. Gary, Civil War veteran, ooh... you received the Medal of Bravery in a most high fashion, sir! You even continued fighting on three legs! Very impressive! Wow, if I had to pick a survivor out of all of these ponies, I'd definitely be you!" Tango loved hearing comments about his military savvy, especially from a mare. "I assume you're in Ponyville, correct?"

    "Affirmative."

"Well, now that we have your info and location, we can start working getting you out of there!"

"Are you serious?!" This was the best hes he's ever heard. It seemed almost like a dream.

"Yes, when you came overseas, you signed a protection waiver placing you under the protection on the Equestrian Government until you returned home. The waiver was authenticated by The Princess herself. That's makes our sworn duty to protect you, and bring you home safe and sound." Tango couldn't believe it. It was like today was his birthday. "As soon as we can get you vaccinated, we'll have a boat charted for you to New Liberty City."

    "Wait, vaccinated? Vaccinated for what?"

    "Um...,"
the mare's voice trailed off. "Well, you're infected." The words hit Tango like a blow to the stomach.

"What do you mean, I'm infected?! I'm not one of them! I'm not bitten! How could I be infected?!"

"The infection doesn't work that way. It's something in the water system. I'm extremely sorry you had to learn this way" The mare's voice was soft and sincere. Tango took a moment to think about what he had just heard. He'd used the clean water pills the whole time, maybe he wasn't infected. Then he remember flushing his wounds out with water when he first got to Ponyville. If what she was saying was true, he was in fact infected.

"How long to I have to live?" Tango asked nervously.

"The infection doesn't take hold until after you die, but the sooner we can get you vaccinated the better. You'll have to stay put until we can get to you."

    "Can't I come to you?"

"No, Canterlot is in pieces right now. We're one of very few safehouses left. Coming here would be suicide!"

"So how long will the vaccination take to get here?"

    "Uh..."
There was a long pause "We... don't... exactly... know right now..."

    "WHAT?!?"
Tango loudly screamed over the radio, cutting off whatever the mare was going to say.

"Well, the ruling Princess and a team of scientist ponies went up north towards the Crystal Empire to work on a vaccine. They haven't been heard from since. We have no idea if they even reached their intended destination or not..."

    "SO YOU'RE TELLING ME..."
Tango yelled, breathing loudly out of his nostrils. "I'M INFECTED WITH AN INCURABLE DISEASE, AND YOU'RE TELLING ME TO STAY PUT AND WAIT FOR A VACCINATION THAT MAY NOT EVEN COME!"

    "Listen..."

"NO, YOU LISTEN! I'M GOING TO MOVE FORWARD AS PLANNED! I'M GOING TO MOVE ON TO VANHOOVER WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! I HAVE SOME WOUNDS THAT NEED TO HEAL, SO I'LL BE STUCK IN PONYVILLE FOR A FEW DAYS. YOU HAVE UNTIL THEN TO COME UP WITH YOU MIRACLE CURE! GOOD DAY!" Tango abruptly shut the radio off. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself.

Nopony's stopping me from reaching home. Nopony.

After not being around other ponies for a while Puzzle had failed to notice that her hearing had been impaired as when she has foolishly dove into the river she had in fact got water in her ears. All she could hear from the Indigo Stallion were muffled sounds “Oh bugger, it’s one of them" she thought "I’m surprised I didn’t smell it”. Puzzle turned around to face the Stallion “U-uh I’m just like you, yu-yeah I like eating ponies and things, so uh you don’t really need to eat me” she stuttered before swiveling back around and galloping away rather slowly from the confused looking pony. “That was an ugly, right?” she thought to herself as she snuck a look behind her to see the Stallion lazily trot after her “C’mon legs work!” she cursed to herself but her hooves felt heavy and sluggishly dragged across the ground as her purple pursuer neared.

Crawler took off at a run, Eiro following close behind. Soon they reached the outer circle of buildings, he could see his fence, looking behind he could see the herd a few streets away.

"Go on up the hill, look for the spiky fence. I'll be there in a moment." As she ran on, Crawler pulled the bottle he'd rescued from the bar earlier out and took a quick sip.

"Wicked waste." He said sadly, before upending the bottle. As the fluid gushed out, he moved it around, making a line and then an arrow pointing towards his house. Lowering his head, he sent a spark shooting from his horn. The booze lit instantly, a wall of flames reaching almost to each side of the road. It would be short lived, but it would slow the zonies down, and hopefully help cover the scent trail of living bodies.

Charging up the grassy slope, he quickly caught up with Eiro as she reached his makeshift defense. "This way." Leading her round they passed the red pegasus he'd been spooked by the other day, he gave it a nudge, nothing, she'd finally bought the farm. Really should clean that up. Pushing the sign forwards, he undid the entrance bolt. "Crawl through, but don't go too far on the other side." Letting her go in first, he followed a few moment later, pulling the sign back into place behind him. Hmm, nice wiggle. HEY! You are a gentlecolt! Eyes closed! Averting his peepers for the last few feet, he joined her on the edge of the lawn. After closing the spike plate, he stood up himself.

"Left hoof forwards, you don't want to catch yourself in the cheesewire." He went ahead of her, walking over the deadly strings with more exaggerated steps than he'd normally take. Round the back, he undid the window and jumped in, turning to help Eiro clamber in herself. He resealed the glass, but didn't move the wardrobe into place. Don't want her thinking I'm some lunatic who's locked her in his home.

"Welcome to Chez Crawler." He said, lighting one of the candles. As the sphere of light expanded, he was suddenly very aware of the unmade bed, unwashed plates and bottles scattered around. Not to mention all the comics and Daring Do anime figurines he had on the book shelves.

Flesh eating hordes outside, limited food supplies inside, a pony you don't know from Celestia and you're worried about the state of your living room? I swear, if I could leave, I would. Shut up brain!

"Can I offer you a drink? I think I still have some tea left. Only instant milk though..."

"What I errr hey ... come back ?"
Ursas voice trailed off as the Pegasus turned and teeter off. She likes eating ponies like me ? does she think i'm a ?
He started after her at a slow pace.

    "Hey Hey!"
She doesn't seem to hear me cant keep shouting either, really will attract something nasty. Hmm hang on a sec I've got it. He stopped for a moment removing his note pad and pencil he used for noting his research, he wrote Hello I'm Ursa . Taking the pad in his muzzle he galloped ahead racing past her he stopped a couple of feet ahead. He plonked his flank down and held the note so she could see it. He tried to smile and tilted his head to the side wandering if she was ok. This resulted in him looking completely dopey. But this was the first talking pony he had seen in a long time. He just hopped his initial trust wasn't misplaced.

(Continuing from last post seeing as it actually cut half of it off)

“This doesn’t seem right?” said Wisdom “why are so many Zonies coming through here all of a sudden?” he asked to nopony in particular. Wisdom turned back to walk back into his cave minding the traps, going back over to his stack of books and notes, riffling through them until he found the book he was looking for. “Aha!” exclaimed Wisdom holding up a weathered black notebook flipping through it, just on the inside was written “A compendium on the Zombie Pony epidemic detailing observations on anatomy, nature, and a general detail of the history of Equestria’s fight against the horde”.

He smiled a slight smile of pride whilst flicking through the pages of drawings of the anatomy of the Zonies and pages of geography, numbers of Zonies in each town most of which were blank due to Wisdom not having visited them yet. Until he got to the part of the book he was after, it was a detailed diary of location, Zony numbers, and any other additional information.
Wisdom closed his eyes and focused on the pendant around his neck the process has become much more difficult with all the obvious increased stress levels from the outbreak, but almost like riding a bike the old battered white crystal began to glow and before long the burning letters began to come off the crystal to land on the paper, “Today I woke up the weather seemed to be getting colder due to the later season cloudy with some slight drizzle, located in cave in the south-west of the Unicorn ranges, noticed another horde of approximately 4 Zonies walking through the valley below made up of 1 uni-” Wisdom was interrupted by the sound of what sounded like an avalanche he dropped the book from his grasp and went out to look.

Stepping over the traps walking to the edge of the cliff looking to the right he saw the backs of the Zonies he was just documenting but it sounded like the noise was coming from the other direction he looked to the left and that was when his heart almost died for staring down at him was an army, not just a horde no an entire army of Zonies there must of been at least 5,000 of them all marching through the valley below. Not soon after this the sheer smell of the army of the dead reached his nostrils and he almost threw up, just the mere smell of their pestilent rotten flesh from this distance was enough to make him suicidal.

Regathering his sense he quickly made up his mind to go back into his cave and activate his main security features and ride out the swarm but as he turned he was faced by the slathering maw of a pegasi Zony staring him right in face. It looked like its fur was once a royal blue but the sheer decomposition had turned it into a black sludge, his mane was a matted towsel of red which seemed to be the only part of this beast that wasn’t bloody though of course he couldn’t tell even if it was.

Reacting quickly Wisdom stepped back he closed his eyes activating his crystal preparing to do something he only ever did in the most desperate circumstances saying three old words from a book he...borrowed from the Canterlot library in the starswirl section, and as he finished the spell his crystal glowed a blinding white and fired three molten rune’s at the Zony which struck it straight in the face covering it in a black smoke which as it cleared left a burned skeletal husk of black bones which were left in a permanent expression of shock.

Wisdom only had a second to look at the husk before he stumbled collapsing onto the ground quickly losing consciousness he attempted to drag himself over to his cave door his every muscle screaming at him to stop, he knew he shouldn’t of performed that spell only a real unicorn could have performed that spell properly without serious damage, but the use of his knowledge in crystal energy and his special talent could only go so far.

The last time he'd performed that spell he’d been paralysed completely for a whole week his daughter Rose Wing was beside herself she thought I was going to die, it was seeing her tears that made me pull myself together. The thought of Rose crying reawoke him. “ROSE WING!” he shouted dragging his half-conscious body further forward knowing that he had to find her, he had to save her, he had to make sure she was safe. “I’m coming Rose Wing, i’m coming please don’t cry i’m coming I won’t leave you again”.

Wisdom just about dragged himself in to the cave pulling a lever released a weight that was holding up a pile of rocks over his cave entrance, the resulting avalanche covered the whole entrance, Wisdoms spoke some last words through gritted teeth before passing out “I hope that killed some of you evil abominations and if you’ve touched my daughter I swear i’ll kill you all” Wisdom's eyes fell on the now (due to the cave in) half-light photo of Rose Wing walking next to him on her first day of school then he fell into the blackness of both the now dark cave and his own unconsciousness...“I’m coming Rose”.

following Pub Crawlers instructions making her way through the mass of wire, making a point to ignore the corpse so not to feel ill, and once inside she sat down and took a deep breath feeling happy to properly rest her hooves, also allowing her bags to slide of and rest beside her removing the weight from her back, before hearing Pub Crawler offering her a cup of tea, "no thanks" she replied politely before scanning the room from where she was sat 'cozzy' she though to herself before removing the bow she had obtained resting it in front of her

"hrmm there has to be something i can do with this until i can find some arrows" she muttered to herself before as she removed all the pouches and the two small blades she had retrieved laying them all down in front of her, "i wonder" she said picking up the blades and the bow lining them up finding that the curve of the blade was similar to that of the bow, she quickly dug through her bags finding some rope which she used to fasten the two blades by their grips and the grooves, tightly securing them together forming a makeshift blade-bow, before letting of slight yawn "huh seems the sleepless nights are starting to take their toll" she finished before using her saddle-bags as a pillow to take a small nap.
