Temptation is growing... I can turn out to be a crazy collector despite my better judgement so I don't want to start collecting all of them! But I would be interested in buying some earlier generations of FiM.

Would anyone be able to point me to a resource or give me some information on the predecessors of the Mane 6 or any of the other ponies?

    Thanks!

    EDIT:

Of what I can find so far:

    Generation 1 - Mane Six:

    Twilight - Twlight Sparkle
    Applejack - Applejack
    Posey - Fluttershy
    Surprise - Pinkie Pie
    Firefly - Rainbow Dash
    Sparkler - Rarity

I'm not sure if this is the best site, but one I've used for information on previous gens is http://mylittlewiki.org/ . I'd be interested as well to know if there are any other good resources out there.

I've found this site http://strawberryreef.com/ to be very good as a start to identify ponies and all their release variants. Also this site specialises in G1 ponies http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/identify/identify.html .

For accessory identification (I stumbled across this when I won a pony lot off ebay and it came with a shoe box full of pony wear, combs, saddles, hats etc) I use this site http://www.greatponies.com/

But the overall experts I have found to be the guys and gals over at the MLP Arena forum. They are a very friendly and informative bunch :D

Thanks for the MLP Arena forum and greatponies link. I will have to take a look at them.

Strawberry Reef is great - It's been my go-to website for blind bag information for a while now. :D

I think this sudden thought about buying previous Mane Six versions may be the sole reason for attending Ponycon this year! (If I get there from London that is. It'll be a day trip for me...)
