Since nobody else has suggested this (yet), I'm going to ...

Since pre-con meets appear to be a Thing, and meeting beforehand is just as important as breakfast, I'm going to suggest this now.

The aim of the game is to meet up on the Friday, eat, drink, be merry, socialise etc.etc.etc.
    • Time: TBD - myself, I'll be getting to Manchester mid-afternoon so allowing for time to do things like check in, drop charity auction stuff off etc.etc. I'll likely be in a drinking establishment of some description by 4pm. Feel free to come and go as you please.
    • Location: The Wetherspoons in the Trafford Centre (the Mardi Gras) seems like a logical choice. If someone with local knowledge has any other suggestions, speak up now or forever hold your pieces. 'Spoons do cheap(ish) food, but if that's not your bag then you're not exactly spoilt for choice within the Trafford Centre.
I realise that some folks will be arriving on the Thursday, but I'm not one of them. So there :p

Well I'm going to the mini-golf shindig, so I will probably go to the 'Spoons afterwards.

I was curious if there was going to be a pre-meet this year. In fact given no one else had even hinted at one I was almost tempted to try and organise it myself if not for a complete lack of experience.

Well I'm going to miss the old Moon Under the Water but I guess it's just too out of the way of Trafford center.

I'll join the meet up after some golf.

If you want to do that, nobody is stopping you.

Another alternative is the Castle In The Air, which is 'behind' the Premier Inn West and also a Wetherspoons - it's likely to be less rammed than the one in the Trafford Centre, but at the same time it's not as 'central'. That being said, it isn't beholden to the Trafford Centre's opening times either.

Personally, given how much I love rail travel and how utterly rammed York-Manchester services tend to be, I'll likely be diving into the first place that sells anything remotely alcoholic ...

Would people still be around 20:30ish as that's when my train will be arriving? If that's too late then fair enough.

    Very likely, I'd have thought.

In addition, I'm investigating the possibility of going to the Steamhouse in Urmston, which is about 1.5 miles from the Trafford Centre (there are regular bus services) and is open until 1am at weekends.

I think I'll go to this. I've made the mistake of arriving for the Thursday so I'm going to need to do something to entertain myself.

Hopefully might have some of the boyz along for this, assuming they're not too knackered (read: lacking in party spirit) after the long drive up from Devon.

Anybody know how easy it is to get to the Trafford Centre via train, tram or a croggie it is from Manchester Center? I could come over on the Friday for a few bevvies and laughs as I'm likely driving the Sat and Sun.

For trains it's a freight only line and trams don't have the TWA order yet so they can't start building the line. That leaves the X50 bus or if it gets late the 250 which is mostly the same but with a few more via points.

Didn't there used to be a Manchester Brony group that had meet ups in the Thursday prior? I am getting in to Manchester on Thursday so I was hoping to find some other Bronies to hang out with

Will I be in a venue where there's good beer at reasonable prices and a bunch of Bronies to hang out with? Just try and stop me ;)

Also have the video game history thingy on my radar, time dependent, but might struggle to fit that in.

    This, I suspect.
I'm tempted to go for the evening session - the way I feel right now it's highly unlikely I'll go to the SSC.

That's the one. But yeah a tricky one to fit in due to the timing (I roll up to Deansgate just before 5 on the Friday, would then need to get to Trafford Park, get settled in the hotel and probably ready for fooding and boozing by then). Possibility for the Monday morning before the train, but there's the issue of carting luggage around!
That's a shame.. always enjoyed SSC myself. Loud music stuff isn't for everyone though. It looks like the evening session for this thing is only on the Friday, for what it's worth, the rest finish at 5...

Argh. So it is ... I've got my dates mixed up; I thought the 8th was the Saturday.
Whilst it'd be theoretically doable for me (my train gets into Eccles around 2-ish) the timing would be a bit too tight for comfort, and I'm not traipsing back into central Manchester on a Friday night.
