Richard Adams, the author of Watership Down and The Plague Dogs (among much else) has died at the age of 96:

At least he had a long life, but I'm still sad as Mr Adams and WD had a huge influence on my life. In fact, it's likely that I'm in this fandom today as a result of where WD took me over the years.

Rest in peace, Mr Adams. :( Guess I'll need to get Watership out for a re-read then.
