Please make note of this forum's Community Guidelines including the Adult Content Prohibitions. These rules also apply to the roleplay forum.

These can generally be applied as:
    • No sexual, violent or otherwise graphic roleplay. If you wish to roleplay romance or violence, please keep it to the levels you might see in the show itself. Rainbow Dash may kick a dragon on the nose and Caramel may rub noses with his special somepony, but nothing further tends to cross the minds of Equestrian citizens! If you must take part in this, please do not do so on this forum.
    • No swearing or otherwise profane language. “Pony swears” such as “what the hay”, “horseapples” and “pain in the flank” are exceptions, but please do not overuse these. For all intents and purposes in roleplay, these should be considered the same as if you were to swear in real life.
    • No insulting, aggressive or otherwise too unfriendly behaviour. Equestria is a land built on friendship and harmony at it's core, and while its citizens may not always live by them, it's rare that a character will be too unfriendly. Gilda may be a selfish, quick-tempered and unthoughtful young griffon, but even she can be sociable and certainly does not spend all day being openly rude or causing harm.
Furthermore, these rules apply specifically to the Roleplay Forums:
    • Please submit your character to the Pending sub-forum for moderator approval before roleplay. This allows us and the staff to look at your character and your ability and judge whether you will fit into the community. We welcome anyone who wishes to roleplay so long as they wish to roleplay in the same ways as everyone else, as there are other places that are perfectly acceptable if you don't agree with our guidelines. Even staff need their characters to be approved!
    • Only roleplay as your own character(s). You are only in control of the characters you create, and nobody should take the freedom from you or vice versa. The only exception to this is minor actions such as, say, bumping into someone and them saying "ouch" as an entirely reasonable reaction. Roleplaying further response can be considered "god-moding." This includes affecting the past, present and future of other characters in unreasonable ways. Suddenly telling Loose Mane that you were the one responsible for her parents drowning in pudding, something never mentioned before, without maybe asking the player first might be out of line.
    • Furthermore, please do not roleplay characters from the show. While it is perfectly accepted that your character may have a home in Ponyville or Cloudsdale, this does not mean they are, or have strong connections to, Rarity or Derpy. You may acknowledge them, but please do not take control of them in any way beyond saying hello, for example.
    • Alicorns (such as the Princesses), draconequus (such as Discord), changelings (such as Queen Chrysalis), minotaurs (such as Iron Will) and other creatures not specifically mentioned are not playable currently. There is a lack of canon in regards to these considerably powerful and rare creatures to allow players to use them. Furthermore, “villain” races are difficult to play in a way that would not cause problems. This may change in the future, given more information, but please consider our playable list (see the character forum) as exhaustive for now.
    • Please post in the past tense while writing in character.
Please be careful not to mix tenses, also. Switching from "they have bread" to "and they ate it" is really jarring.
    • Try to avoid short posts, under three or four sentences, and try to use proper English. If you honestly can't think of anything to post, then it is acceptable, but this will not be acceptable on a regular basis. Be creative, describe what your character is thinking or feeling, make mention of that squirrel that just fell off a tree and don't be afraid to set the mood a little. This isn't an instant messenger. Feel free to post a second time if you wish to add something significant.
    • When posting out-of-character please try to avoid doing so in threads, but if you must, please clearly mark any comments you are making out-of-character, such as under a spoiler tag. We have a forum for this talk, and there's always private messages.
    • Player knowledge and character knowledge are not the same thing. You may have read that Raging Heart has been talking to Flower Blossom but your character Hopes High may not, and so must act as if this hasn't happen. While as a player you may influence a character into making actions to find out, too much of this can be considered “meta-gaming.”

Please also use rich text when you can. So things like the use of italic, bold and colour tools to identify character dialogue, intensity of speech and different characters. It can help clear up what is being said between characters from whats happening around them.

Please note that you must join the relevant usergroup after having a character accepted to gain access to the forum in full. Joining the usergroup without an application will likely end with us declining your usergroup request, needing you to try again when/if we accept you.
