    ( CC by-nc-nd 3.0 )

    Air date:
    14 April 2018

    Writer: G. M. Berrow

Synopsis: "Granny Smith and her friends are headed to Las Pegasus; Rainbow Dash tags along as a chaperone so she can ride the best rollercoaster ever before it closes."

This is an episode I don't really know what to think about, though being written by G. M. Berrow probably means it'll be fairly light-hearted. I do have a slight worry that the "Rainbow is going to miss her 'coaster ride" subplot will be dragged out too long, but on the other hoof the Granny-and-friends main story seems like something new. There's been an animatic released by Discovery Family, so I'll put it here under a cut since it's rather spoilery. Anyway, let's have some discussion!

Please use spoiler-cuts until 24 hours after the episode has aired on Discovery Family. Thank you.

The last Las Pegasus episode was one of my least favourites so I'm still not convinced it's a good setting... but we'll have to see where it goes.

I think this episode should be good fun. Granny Smith has always been great to watch whenever she's given screen time and I'm sure the dynamic between Rainbow Dash and the elders will bring up some funny gags.

Could be a fun setup, although (as fun as her books are) I've not been particularly gripped by any of G.M. Berrow's episodes. However, Granny Smith is usually good value, so I'll keep an open mind!

This has crossed my mind, too...

Still, probably better we stay well away from that topic on here. :)

Right I can basically sum up what this episode left me with without any spoilers. For the most part.

    1. Applejack is still worst pony
    2. Nevada is terrible
    3.
Why didn't we see Flim or Flam?! I would have loved to have seen them in this episode.

    7.5/10

That was pretty fun. I liked how the conclusion of the conflict ended up with a really nice mutual understanding between the elders and Rainbow Dash rather than just putting Dash completely in the wrong. It was great to see Las Pegasus again as well and some of the cool little things Flim and Flam did to spruce it up ever since they took over the place! Another nice little addition to the season.

    As I'd expected from G. M. Berrow...

...this was a quite light, fun episode. You could call it filler, but it was entertaining filler. I wasn't sure to start with how interested I was in the setup, and I wasn't that interested in some of the early bits, but I was gradually won over. A classic? No. But it was fine for what it was. Applejack's ghost was brilliant -- by the time we got to "Do I even have to say anything?" I was cracking up. Also, "Trixie's dad" kinda came out of nowhere! Also, a spectacular animation error (I assume) to have the builder pony be shown as an alicorn! A little LyraBon sprinkled in, too. Anyway, overall a pretty solid lowish-stakes episode. I don't mind that. :)

Well new episode time. How did Dash's first episode of season fair?
Pretty good if you ask me. While this is no masterpiece like Sleepless in Ponyville, I had a lot of fun with this one. I personally enjoyed Dash's facial expressions in this. And oh my god was that pony versions of Rick and Morty I just saw? And is Jackpot Roman Rei- I mean Trixie's dad? Plus did anyone noticed the animation error where the male pony guiding the hot air balloon in had wings and a horn? Overall this gets a 7.5/10 from me.

I enjoyed it more than I expected.

I actually thought the "moral" we were heading for was Rainbow Dash learning to slow down and appreciate things more. So I was a bit surprised, but not dissapointed, by the direction it took. Applejack's rules imply that there have been some kind of incidents before, unless she's simply being overprotective again. I get the feeling she simply meant for Rainbow to use her common sense, though. It was an interesting twist to see Rainbow Dash becoming Fluttershy levels of cautious, which I don't think has happened before, and was done in a believable way. I especially liked the detail that she underestimated what the Gold Horseshoe Gals actually did/were, and could've avoided the plot by asking. That's reminiscent of the earlier seasons.

I did enjoy seeing Las Pegasus again, especially the DDR machine. Though I have to wonder how difficult that actually is if you have four legs. I seem to remember only three of the four older mares socialising in Apple Family Reunion, and I may be mistaken, but I think Apple Sauce is the one who wasn't there. And I'd be surprised if that magician at the end isn't somehow related to Trixie, that's a serious resemblance. If he is, it makes me think it would be cool to see them reunited sometime.

Didn't particularly get in to this one I'm afraid...
I just found it more frustrating than entertaining throughout... and it didn't really make a lot of sense since Applejack was clearly at fault and yet it was a lesson for Rainbow Dash. Plus I'm still not fond of Las Pegasus.

Well, it's rare for an episode to be a total miss but I suppose it has to happen sometimes.

    A decent episode
I quite liked the lesson but it was AJ who needed to learn it, not Dash

    Pony Spike?!

I wonder if this episode would've been better if...
...it was AJ who took them to Las Pegasus. It's almost as if that was the plan, but they couldn't think of anything that AJ would have wanted to do so they changed it to being about RD instead.

Yay a Rainbow Dash episode. Loved the Lyra, bonbon and Cranky appearances. Also Trixie's dad and Spike like pony.

Another fun one for me. Some excellent Dash time :). I'm left slightly confused though..

So, Rainbow expresses her displeasure at having to look after the old folks. Fair enough; she's inevitably going to be learning a lesson about respecting/ not pre-judging her elders.

But then AJ decides to give her all these strict rules, and seems completely serious while doing it. But the episode ends with her winking. So are you supposed to assume that the whole 'rules' thing is just AJ trolling Rainbow to teach her a lesson? Or is it just making out that AJ has no idea what she's doing? I feel I'm missing something .

I knew that guy reminded me of something, just couldn't put my finger on it. ;)

    Pretty much what I expected...

Fun episode but not amazing. Rainbow's expressions were good though, and that one magician pony has to be related to Trixie. :p

Although Rainbow did prejudge them, AJ's strict "rules" for the trip didn't help matters. I liked the "Do I really need to say anything?" bit though. :p

No spoiler-cuts needed any more, so I can say that, although it's not show canon, that magician stallion is stated in officially-licensed media to be Trixie's dad. Page 169 of the Ultimate Guide book to be precise, where there's a "Did You Know?" spot which says this:

"Trixie's father, Jackpot, was a famous stage magician. His most impressive trick was the Splashtastic Escape, performed with his friend Big Bucks. It's no surprised that Trixie loves magic tricks too!"

The details match! Until and unless the show says otherwise, Jackpot is TrixieDad as far as I'm concerned. :)
