Ditto! Will be good to see you both. :)

The weather's now looking slightly better, in that it may not rain all the time. :p But I'd still advise a good waterproof coat!

On the actual SVR front, the Coal Tank (no. 1054) failed this morning, but happily it turned out to be a minor problem and all rostered locos are expected to run tomorrow. :)

They look alright but still give me a Class 90 with a Mk3 rake anyday. They might be notorious for generating a constant variety of faults but they didn't half look good and were comfy. Proper trains :p

Thank you to @Somerset Cider and @Oilyvalves for joining me at the SVR today. :) The threatened rain only arrived quite late in the afternoon, and barring signalling problems late on that slightly curtailed the day, things went pretty well, I think. Certainly heaps going on at Highley, more than even at the usual gala.

As we briefly discussed today, I'm planning on running an SVR meetup in earlyish summer if there's enough interest. I'll put up a quick post in a minute in the existing SVR meets thread, which can be found here:

I'll have a few photos from the SVR gala here... um... eventually. :p But for now, here's an update on the forthcoming Diesel Gala on May 16-18. Quite an impressive line-up taking shape for diesel fans:

    Visitors

Prototype HST power car no. 44001 (plus a rake of Mk 3 carriages)
    Class 25 no. D7535
    Class 31 no. 97205
    Class 33 no. 33108
    Class 37 no. 37688
Class 40 no. 40106 Atlantic Conveyor
Class 44 no. D4 Great Gable
    Class 46 no. 46010
Class 55 no. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier

    Home fleet

    Class 14 no. 9551
    Class 42 no. D821 Greyhound
    Class 50 no. 50031 Hood
Class 50 no. 50035 Ark Royal
    Class 50 no. 50044 Exeter
Class 52 no. D1062 Western Courier

The HST power car's attendance is marked as "subject to final approval", so fingers crossed on that one. This is the one fitted with a Paxman Valenta engine, so it should make quite a sound if it does come to the Gala!

Three additions to the roster have been announced. Although exact locos are not yet known, there should be a representative of the Class 60, Class 66 and Class 88 fleets. The first two from GBRf and the 88 from DRS. (Source: SVR Twitter.)

I forgot to post these when they were released, but here are a couple of videos from railway visits I did a month or so back:

More trespass trouble with Flying Scotsman, I see. :(

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-48170533

The problems with this loco seem to outweigh those with every other steam loco put together. I do wonder how long this is sustainable before Network Rail gets fed up and bans 60103 from the main line. Would be a shame, but far better that than someone get hit by a train. A CrossCountry driver was on Twitter earlier saying that they'd had to stop their train when someone was two feet from a 110 mph running line.

A few people on various forums have suggested media blackouts on FS. I think that's a total non-starter, unless you're going to ban anyone posting photos on Twitter, plus ban its trains from appearing in places like Realtime Trains.

I know Network Rail SE area have already banned the loco from the Kent area cos of the risk. Sadly be a matter of time before other areas do the same.

Prototype HST power car (41001) withdrawn from running at the SVR diesel event due to engine issues. :( Will still be on static display, but hugely unfortunate at such short notice as it was a major draw this year and has been reliable for years. Thanks to @Zenfox for alerting me. Official announcement:

I don't imagine there'll be a replacement at such short notice, unless the SVR can call on yet another 50 from its home fleet. :p

The SVR are having a dreadful time of it this year. Not only is the HST out of the gala, but so are the Class 44 (D4 Great Gable) and the home-based Class 14. I'm racking my brain, but I can't ever remember an SVR gala where three major attractions pulled out in the last few weeks. Really sad for them. :(

Also, with the HST, Saturday is GWR's HST Farewell -- so even if 41001 returns, the chance to ride behind a long-distance HST and 41001 on the same weekend has gone forever. 41001 had to run this gala for it to be possible, and the chance will never come again. :(

It is indeed a shame. Although on your last point; you're forgetting the East Midlands HSTs ;). I'm fairly sure 41001 will be running somewhere again before they're withdrawn.

And not for the first time, I'm ashamed to admit! Plus of course the short-formation HSTs will still be around in Devon and Cornwall. You'd have to be pretty committed to do those as a double with the SVR, though!

i think i just met perhaps the most delusion person ever today. I was watching some trains today at a footbridge by my house and this old person shall we say, wonders over to me and starts spouting this BS about scrapping all the modern trains and replace them with Class 37s and MK1s. Anyone else ever encountered a person like this?
