Ah, LNER garter blue. The best livery for A4s, in my opinion! I wonder if I'll ever see it again, though, other than with Mallard on static display? Union of South Africa is being retired, Sir Nigel Gresley looks like being BR blue forever more, and it's going to be years before Bittern even goes in for overhaul, let alone emerges again.

The entire thing was modelled in Roblox, no importing from Blender needed

I want Mallard to return to steam, NRM would be swimming in cash until the heat death of the universe if they did restore her

I don't play it myself but I've heard there's a whole microtransaction system people make real money with so I was just wondering if that was what you were making it for. Is there a train sim on Roblox? If not perhaps you should be making it :p

Another moment in railway history sees the end of loco hurled trains out of Liverpool Street. So for this month photos the charging of the guard and class 33s back on the Southern.

I have posted this on my twitter but will share it here too.

With all that's going on there is one thing people have forgotten about and that our heritage railways. There is a real danger of losing them during this and with one of the big names the Seven Valley could be closed for good in a few months. They need help as they wont get anything from government so if you can please donate to them and keep them alive.

As a MHR volunteer please if you booked for a event in the next two month please think about giving your ticket refund to them as a donation.

SVR member here who will be renewing soon regardless of whether trains run. That's a really kind post to make; thank you! I'm sure a lot of other heritage railways are in the same boat, especially with this hitting at the start of the year before most have had galas, plus before Bank Holidays etc. But for the SVR anyway, the appeal page is here:

TIL that Billy Butlin originally intended to buy Silver Link but the Eastern Region controller demanded more money for her then her actual worth as scrap iron

Given the current inability to travel far, I thought some of you train folk might like to see some video/pics I’ve taken recently. These were captured from a field/park within 100 yards or so of my front door, and the place is normally deserted. I tend to go out on walks for my daily exercise, so tying this in works reasonably well.

From a couple of weeks ago:

I took this one today. We get Network Rail test trains coming in and out of Derby Rail Technical Centre every so often.

I've been on the railway for 12 years today and looking back it has been some ride. As few know I work for Southeastern at Waterloo East station as a member of platform staff. I joined in April 2008 and was my first real job as up to that point the only work experience I had was volunteering on the MHR which i was doing for 18 months. My role involves customer service and all the stress of that and train dispatch which carries a lot of responsibilities as well as sometimes covering station controller.

I've probably heard ever insult as well been attacked a number of times which to say is the low points of my job. Got so bad in 2012/13 to where I had a complete mental breakdown. That said it was that moment that lead me to find MLP in 2014 and in turn meet some really great people who am proud to call friends. The high points of the role outnumber the bad and range from helping them who don't use public transport a lot to working with good people.

As of April last year I've been off platform duties and since September been restricted to gateline due to feet problems. I kinda do miss my old role but a change is nice. That said I have applied for a driver's role but due to some medical issues I can't take the role until they are sorted.

What does the future hold for the Train pone? To carry on in these weird times and once able to carry on with treatment for my feet problems so I can go back to platform and then sort my other issues so one day maybe take the driver's job. That said I kinda want to take an on train job but since SE don't have them roles at the moment I may have to look at other TOCs.

So glad that's the case. Obviously I've never encountered you working, simply due to geography -- but everything I know tells me you're an absolute credit to the railway. And though it's naturally more high-profile now, rail workers are always essential workers as far as many of us are concerned. I know as a non-driver, I wouldn't be going out much (in normal times) if it wasn't for people like you helping us out.

That was a moving post -- thank you for sharing it with us, and I hope the future will bring you something really fulfilling. :)

On this day in 1975 saw the start of passenger runs between Weston super Mare and London Paddington of the high speed train or now day known as the HST. For those who know me I have a thing for the HST :p

An internet search and found what could be the first train (from Wikimedia)

Here's something I haven't seen until now: a Class 230 working at Kidderminster! Not my video -- it was taken by "Sharpo" (YT name SharposWorld) who locals around here will know manages to catch a staggering number of workings on and around the SVR area.

The 230 been on test the last week or so before heading to Wales. It has to do about 1000 miles fault free before it can go.:p

I've been told that the new Kidderminster station building will open in the next week. (Thanks to the person who told me!) Unfortunately the current situation means it's going to be a long time before I can experience it for myself, since I won't be able to use trains (or indeed travel more than a couple of miles from home at all, as I don't drive) until they're reopened for leisure travel, and nobody's so much as mentioned that so I assume it's still a long way off.

Amusingly, just before this person told me, I'd had an email from WMR telling me that it should have opened in May. So the delay from there hasn't actually been too long. Mind you, the delay from my actual email enquiry in early January(!) was nearly five months, much of it experiencing pass-the-parcel from WMR to Network Rail to the county council etc etc etc, which really is a bit much! :p
