The whole Nintendo Switch Online debacle. In two ways, my own personal view on it, and people's attitude towards others.

Firstly my personal take. I'm a Nintendo fan, I love their games and their characters. Nintendo's always been one of my favorite game companies, right next to Sega. I'm also a PC gamer. I love PC games, and enjoy them. So as a PC gamer, my opinion is that I paid for a game, I have every right as a consumer to use it. PC gaming online is free, just buy for the game and you're good to go. You don't have to pay Steam or GOG a monthly or annual fee just to play online multiplayer. Having to pay an monthly or annual fee is anti-consumer as it stops the consumer from fully using a product they bought. I hold this opinion strongly, and if anyone disagrees I'm sorry for that.

Nintendo was the last console manufacturer who did not do "paid online." On DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, you simply bought the game, went online and played without having to worry about paying a monthly or annual fee. Looking at the like/dislike ratio on the Nintendo Switch Online video on YouTube, 7.9K likes, and a massive 36K dislikes. Honestly I can't blame people for not liking this, Nintendo did not require people to pay for online multiplayer, and now you have to pay to play games that you already paid for and bought. As of 11 PM last night, I could not go online in Puyo Puyo Tetris or DOOM. Games I paid for, but couldn't use their multiplayer unless I paid up. As a consumer, it feels like a rip off. I pay for a game, and can't fully play it anymore. I did buy a Nintendo Switch Online subscription this morning for 1 year, $20 a year is easy for me to afford. I can see why people are upset, and why I'm a bit upset too. Right now, the only place for free online multiplayer is PC.

Having to pay to play an online game I already paid for is more of a personal annoyance. What annoys me more are people's attitude towards others. Lurking Twitter I've seen remarks like "If you're too poor to pay $20, you should not even have bought a Switch," or "It's only $20," or even "You bought a $300 game system, a $60 game, you can afford $20." These kind of comments annoy me. Reality is people do hit hard times. Maybe they bought a Switch last year when they were stable, and maybe they hit hard times. Maybe it's a kid who makes an allowance and really can't afford said service. For real, some people have to make the decision "do I pay a bill, or pay to play games online." Just because people are in a tight bind, does not mean they weren't in the past. These people making these comments do not know what kind of situation people are in, they could have been fine yesterday, in hard times today.

Just venting some annoyances I've on this thing, so posting it here. Yeah, it makes me sad Nintendo went the paid online route, but it's more annoying to see people in defense of Nintendo's paid online service lash out at others in such a horrible way.

McDonald's WiFi. First you have to type your phone number in, then you get a code, type that code, and have to enter your address and name...it's ridiculous...

The fact that Impact Wrestling PPVs appear to be impossible to view in the UK in any way or form now. How am I supposed to watch and support your show if you give me nothing? The UK is a really strong fanbase for Impact too, so it's baffling they wouldn't give a clear way to actually watch their PPV events. :(

Not a new complaint/rant, but the fact that it's pretty much impossible to take a reasoned, nuanced stance on certain political issues on Twitter. Brexit is one of course, as is Jeremy Corbyn, but another is Scottish independence: while I strongly suspect that 98% of people are willing to listen to viewpoints that aren't exactly their own, sadly it's the other 2% who spend their time yelling on social media.

I saw this happen in both directions the other day: a person who'd posted a balanced tweet mentioning that not all parts of Scotland were the same when it came to supporting independence* got pretty much simultaneously insulted by someone who took the view that only "sheeple" (they actually used the word!) supported Scotland being in the UK and by someone who took the view that an independent Scotland would quickly become a bankrupt failed state.

    * Generally speaking, people living at either end of Scotland (the Borders/the Northern Isles) were much less likely to vote Yes in 2014 than people living in the Central Belt.

Both these attackers were personally unpleasant and aggressive. I don't know what the original poster did as I closed the window in distaste. But you can see what this leads to -- increasing numbers of people who do appreciate shades of grey vacating the field entirely and leaving the fray to the most intense hardliners, who then just proceed to shout abuse at each other and make the place even more miserable for the ordinary people who remain. I mean, what can you do? :(

Xmas trees with flashing lights in shops/restaurants etc. They're so distracting and unpleasant to look at, why can't they have lights that just stay on?

I got ignored by two bus drivers in quick succession today. What did they think I was doing standing at the bus stop?

The Sonic Movie. Not so much the movie itself, just the general reaction of the Internet. Can we please go one day where Sonic isn't treated badly by people who hate him? Honestly as a fan that worries me a lot as I don't want to be bullied by others who don't like Sonic (being on other forums in the past, I'm usually picked on for liking things others don't, which just adds to my worrying).

Honest opinion on the movie, looks like it's going to be a fun time. Yeah, Sonic doesn't look like the games, but I was anticipating that as Hollywood movies aren't faithful to games to begin with anyway. I'm probably the only one on the Internet looking at the positives to a Sonic thing, as usual.

Sorry for posting this here, I just needed to get this off my chest. Though it is nice to talk to @Cloudane about it at least, so thanks for that.

Although I agree with your overall sentiment - I'm really tired of hearing negative things about the movie - I don't think this is quite accurate. From my experience, it's the biggest Sonic fans who are complaining the most about this.

I agree with that too. I think the movie would have been better received if Sonic looked exactly like game Sonic. The movie itself looks like it's going to be a fun action comedy, and as a long time Sonic fan, I'm ok with that. :) With the way Jim Carrey's Eggman looked at the end of the trailer, I imagine it will be about his character going mad, that's just my guess. That caught my attention

Between this movie and Detective Pikachu, I'm glad to see some fun movies based on game series I've loved. I'm sorry, but I like being positive with things I like.

The premise reminds me of Sonic X, which I actually really liked, aside from the English dub. I actually find movie Sonic quite cute so far, especially with that voice. I still don't think anyone can play Sonic better than Jun'ichi Kanemaru, but from the trailer, this characterisation actually seems closer to that than most English language portrayals. I feel like it won't be the same if they don't at least include some of the anthropomorphic supporting cast, and they'll be missing a trick if they don't involve chaos emeralds. Maybe if I treat it as its own thing, rather than "Sonic". That's an interesting theory about Eggman, though. It would be interesting to see how he gets to the level of crazy he is in the games.

Neighsayers gonna neigh, and for fans of the series, many of them seem to hate about 90% of it for no good reason. There is some optimism around the upcoming Team Sonic Racing, though. But all of that aside, there's never any need for nastiness over a simple difference of opinion, and it really sucks that it's happened to you. :(

I say some of the hate Sonic gets is justified but I do think it goes way out of proportion sometimes. I hate it when I say I like Sonic Adventure 2 but I get all these stupid comments saying "Why do you like it? it's aged horribly!" and it just drives me mad. I do not really like the series anymore and this was one of the reasons I stopped bothering with it. They say the most of the toxic people in the fanbase are those who create the edgy ocs on DeviantArt, yet they're some of the nicest I've come across. And the worst are those fanboys who just complain about everything.

As for the movie, I will be straight up and say I think it will be terrible. I do like Jim Carrey's performance as Eggman but everything else just doesn't feel like a Sonic and with some of the reactions of the Sega staff are anything to go back, it could well and truly kill the franchise once and for all.

You know what, I thought about Sonic X the other day after seeing the trailer a couple of times. The idea of Sonic visiting the human world was pretty much Sonic X too. You're the first person I've seen who says movie Sonic looks cute. The more I think about it, the one scene everyone is making memes out of actually looks rather unfinished, compared to the scene where they show he's about to run. The poster feels more polished, and that poster gave me Speed Highway vibes seeing Sonic running up a building.

Yeah, usually with Sonic, I try to stay positive. I even got enjoyment out of games like Sonic Boom and Sonic and the Black Knight, and most don't like those games (haven't played Sonic 06, mostly because I have Nintendo consoles and play on an older PC). I want to get Team Sonic Racing too.

Thanks, yeah on an old forum I went to I remember people use to pick on me because I liked Jimmy Neutron games. Because of that, I tend to worry about things I like getting a negative reaction, mostly because I never know if anyone would get mad or come at me for simply enjoying something I like.

The amusing part is, some just seem to hate Sonic Adventure 2 because it's cool to do. I think the first time I ever heard anything negative on it was on YouTube. After that, people just said how bad the game was. I remember playing Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, loved it, played the GameCube version years later, and still loved it as much. My opinion on games rarely changes.

Fair enough, it's your opinion. I will disagree with it killing the franchise. There was the Super Mario Bros movie, and there's still Mario games. Going by what Sega releases, I think the games will always be there with the Sonic everyone knows and love.
