I know that FiM hasn't ended yet, but this thread isn't going anywhere either! So, like the subject line says: if you had to pick one thing from all your time as an MLP fan that you wouldn't have missed for the world, what would it be? It can be huge or tiny, as long as it's to do with the My Little Pony fandom. (Not just a show episode, although a fandom thing relating to an episode does count.)

I do have an answer, but I'll wait until a few more people have replied. :)

Nice idea for a discussion. :)

If I had to pick one experience, it would have to be the day of my first MLP convention. UK Ponycon 2015 in Leicester. I missed the Friday pre-meet, but the convention itself was very fun.

In particular, my favourite memory is of going to the nearby Wetherspoons for dinner on the Saturday evening. We put a massive table together for about 15 of us, and we had a big line of plushies (many newly bought that day) down the middle of it. I got to meet people at that table that I’m still friends with today. And overall I felt a really strong sense of ‘belonging’. It was just really good to hang out with so many like-minded people.

As the evening wore on, we started hearing murmurings of the latest MLP episode, and how it was really good. Possibly even the best ever. I managed to avoid spoilers, so went home that evening and blind-watched ‘Crusaders of the Lost Mark’. The icing on top of a wonderful day.

I remember travelling on a train a few days after the con. And thinking about what a good time I’d had the previous weekend was actually making me tear up a bit, haha.

Three and a half years is quite a while, but I still feel a bit like most fandom "moments" had already passed when I got here. Still, my favourite experience so far was UK PonyCon 2018, not least because I didn't even know if I'd be able to make it. If I were to be more specific, I'd say singing with many other fans and at least a few friends, both at the Crystal Ball and just before the closing on the Sunday. Like I said on the feedback thread, I'd never felt belonging like that before, and several songs from the show and fandom have taken on a whole new meaning for me since. My mind actually stayed blown for about a week after the convention, tearing up fairly often at the memory. I actually felt my confidence grow after that, and it still hasn't dropped to where it was before.

I know it's boring of me, but I'm also going to pick a UK PonyCon memory! This is from 2015, when the con was held in a hotel. In those days, My Little Karaoke hadn't arrived at UKPC, and the very basic setup they did have (singing along to YouTube) didn't appeal too much. Anyway, the upstairs lobby area of the con space had a piano in one corner and a bunch of us got around this piano, with people taking turns to play MLP tunes on it. The snag was that none of us were actually good piano players, so it was mostly one-finger stuff. We didn't really care about that, though.

We put a few plushies and figures on the piano, and we spent quite a while singing along. There was nothing official about this -- it wasn't in the con schedule at all -- but it was just a little group of friends, many of whom would never have met but for Pony, enjoying the harmless fun and silliness of ponies by being harmlessly fun and silly ourselves. For a little while, I really didn't have a care in the world. Yes, UKPC has grown a lot since then and I greatly enjoy the karaoke now as well. But that afternoon in Leicester will always be very special to me. :)

I'm also going to mention a UK PonyCon memory; 2017 in my case.

I wasn't feeling too great around that time for reasons that don't need repeating here and was really looking forward to the con as it was the first time in a long time I felt as if I'd be able to have some space to myself. It was also the first time I'd ever been to UK PonyCon having missed out on the past few years through events clashing and tickets selling out.

But the other thing that happened that weekend was it was the weekend that My Little Pony: The Movie came out. So in the event what I did was packed up my bag for UK PonyCon (including my first attempt at a Pony cosplay I'd made) and took it with me to the cinema to see the film. Then immediately afterwards I walked out of the cinema and on to the train to UK PonyCon. I was already buzzing with excitement for the convention and seeing the film on my way to the convention was really just the icing on the cake. I remember feeling like I was walking on cloud nine as I walked to my hotel.

Staying up Saturday night / Sunday morning watching livestreams of episodes, back when that was a thing.
One of the best atmospheres I've experienced for anything.

Some of the episodes in particular had very memorable reactions from people, where the chat just exploded (and exploded again) after <thing> happened.

Can't give a good solid straight answer to that!

Online it'd be the early days in May 2011 first discovering the show and Ponychan. Ponychan was amazing back then, people took the 4chan trope of being as nasty as possible and completely turned it on its head into going out of their way to be as lovely as possible. It gave me huge faith in humanity that people from the former place could end up creating the latter. Massive threads with hundreds of posts dedicated to cheering one person up who was going through a hard time. Great stuff

Offline - a toss-up between BUCK 2013 and BUCK 2014. 13 was my first and amazing and just constantly going around going "wooow"... and even not feeling out of place even though I was 31 and almost everyone else was like 16-25 and I was afraid I would come across as creepy joining such a young persons fandom. And the venue was amazing, and meeting Apple Bloom and everything. However BUCK14 is when I actually knew people and spent almost the whole convention crossing people off my mental "would like to meet" list so that was amazing and special in a whole other way.

I met someone on Ponychan named @Cloudane, which in turn led this American brony to here. :D

Ponychan was a good memory in its early days, met good people there, some of which I still keep in touch with. Was refreshing coming from gaming forums with some of the worst people I've ever seen. Introduced me to positive online communities.

Outside the Internet, Rainbow Rocks being down the street from where I lived at the time, friend and I got to see it, it was a great time. Even the usher had to come in when everyone was laughing. Similarly, both times I've seen the MLP movie in theaters. Met a brony the first time seeing it and talked a bit too, and the second time with mom and her co-worker who likes ponies too. :) I never had a chance to go to a pony convention, but these were close to IRL pony experiences to me.

Not to mention some of the MLP surprises I got for Christmas from mom.

My first MLP convention at UKPC in Nottingham in 2018. It was the first one I was able to attend and had the best time I had all year.

Sadly, I can't think of that particular con without thinking of what happened the following Wednesday, and vice versa.

hum, can't pick out one moment.

first time bingeing all the pony eps till 2/3 way through S2

first time obsessively listening to General Mumble's Dreaming, Waiting

first time RPing with @Fawlkes. so friggin magical - felt like I was in the show. 7 years or so ago now D: also it led to many more RP magic moments

seeing 1st EQG movie in theatre for the first times and shyly seeing bronies in the flesh for the first time while hiding from them in a Sunderland cinema :p

first time meeting the Newcastle bronies properly and seeing an ep together. Forgotten if it was ep 100 the first time, but that was a very memorable meeting :D

going to New Year brony meet in London wih a NE brony and listening to FiW remixes for the first time in his car, then getting enjoyably lost in London with another brony.

first time going to Bronyscot, meeting @Fawlkes (who I still RP with) learning the CCG (still obsessed with) and dancing to pony music in a crowd. also met and played cards with one of the coolest bronies ever

Probably going to BUCK 2016! The only time I ever got to meet in person with the community other than a few chance meetings at a Comic cons.

Sure its kinda sad it was the last one and I was not in the community when the other ones were ran but at least I got to one!

Also me trying to shambolically organise a meet up of UKoE forum members which ended up with us all in a giant circle at the very end after us all trying to find each other but not doing until then haha!

The time when I went to BUCK 2014 and 2016 respectively. BUCK 2014 was excellent - I traveled up to Manchester with a few local friends from my area. I played BUCK legacy with some of them and met the guy who used to be known as Drawponies up there. I also shook hands with The Living Tombstone, although it was only a brief interaction.

As for BUCK 2016, I went up on my own that time but had a lot fun meeting with @Pixiced and attending events with him during my entire time there, including the Summer Sun Celebration and meeting two or three members from this forum on that 'shambolically' organised meet :p (I was the guy with the 4DE Rainbow Dash plush, if anyone remembers). But yeah... All in all it was also excellent and I miss the experiences that I had at the convention both times I went, but remember them fondly.
